How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

The Local Government Association has warned that the ending of dedicated European funding could lead to skills shortages lasting longer, as demand increases.

Through a snap survey of the LGA’s members, it has been revealed that there is an increase in the demand for skills in new industries, with these including green technology, renewables, digital, and cyber. This is also alongside the fact that many organisations are struggling to recruit for essential roles in already established workplaces, such as logistics, care work, and hospitality.

Part of this may be due to the fact that those with higher qualifications are increasingly taking on roles that they are overqualified for, widening the gap between those with fewer qualifications and moving them further away from the labour market.

Another concern highlighted by the LGA in the survey was that there is an approximately seven-month gap between the ending of the European Social Fund (ESF), and the introduction of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) which is its domestic replacement. The ESF was a key source of investment in skills and job creation, however that particular element of the UKSPF is only meant to begin in 2024 for most areas of the country.

Boringly predictable. The UK will be tied to the EU economic orbit and remain there, but without any political say in the making of rules and regs or how the EU operates moving forward.

Does that include food? We need to have safety standards on food more than most other things.

Now the chickens are coming home to roost!
Well, they will as soon as we can get inspections, food safety and vets’ certificates signed off….so who knows?

As I understand it, no. EU have offered a food standards deal, but we rejected it. It’s likely Labour if the take office will take the deal as it ease some of the trade barriers. It makes sense as NI is legally subject to EU food standards regs. Having the rest of the UK legally outside EU food standard regs is a nonsense especially as we do mirror them anyway.

oh woe is me - - infamy infamy they have all got it in for me.......... what a crock of shit this is getting in there first to blame Remain, the Establishment and the Blob - what a pile of shit

Everyone with a brain knows the Express is a comic not a newspaper with less credibility for serious news reporting or opinion than Viz, but without the humour.

Love how he starts with a pithy quote from Ian Fleming.
A more relevant quote would be the one attributed to napoleon;
’never disturb your enemy when he’s making a mistake’
And heaven knows, brexiters of all classes, incomes, types and persuasions made one obvious, simple, horrendous mistake between them.

The EU after relaxing budget deficit controls during covid are now in the process of reintroducing them, that means austerity for the whole of the EU. More austerity, more Neo-Liberal dogma, more fuel for the far right.

That would destroy any expansionary economic plans planned by the next Labour Government, although I am cynical enough to say they would welcome it.

We are better off out of it despite the Tories having not got a fucking clue about how to make the best of it, the problem is the centrist liberal left has no more idea than the halfwits like Hannon, Johnson et al

Austerity will be forced on the EU because of the re-introduction of the fiscal rules, if we had a government who would take the opportunity to invest in the nation and it can, we could rise again.

Having watched a bizarre C4 programme the other night with Greg Wallace, leaving the EU has allowed this country to start producing meat originating from human tissue. People are paid to donate balls of flesh upto the size of an orange which are then used to grow meat for human consumption. Oh, and the best tasting meat comes from "oranges" donated by the under 7s. Well done to all of you who decided de-regulation was a good idea!!
Err............???
