Joao Cancelo | Al Hilal Player

If I am right, we signed him in August 2019 - Signed for 55m on 6yr contract so roughly 9m a season.

So every year, Cancelos amortized value goes down by 9m so hes amortized 36m already, so 19m left to go.
If we sell him for 20m I think we book a slight profit and then we have the addons.
You explained it really clearly to a thicko like me.

It Makes sense selling him for 20m plus add ons after your explanation.

Why should we bend over backwards and give Barca favourable pay structure compared to other clubs?

City need to stop doing business with them crooks.
Because the pay a premium price to get those terms. Do you really think Torres was worth 55. You are embarrassing yourself.

No, It wasn't a comparison of their relationship with Pep but of their personalities and how there are places in teams for such players.
We signed Cancelo knowing his personalty for a start, it's not something that has come out of nowhere.
There is a place in the squad for a player that tried to injure another player in training?

I'd not sell him until we know what is happening with Walker. If we sell Walker then Cancelo will be very handy.

And if we do sell him for lowish money then I'd add a large sell-on clause.

Unfortunately, when you extend someone's contract, you amortise the rest of their book value over that contract.

So the first 3 years he amortised 9m a season, but starting with that new deal in 2022, the remaining 28m got spread over 6 years - 4.6m/year.

So his book value is still £23.4m, not £19m.

Oh stop being patronising.

They paid a high amount on players last season (almost 140m) because of the money they had coming in from selling off their future income and they also agreed a big loan too with the banks. They haven't paid a high amount on players this season (about 2m on Romeu).

You work it out yourself. Money doesn't grow on trees at Barcelona. Eventually you have to pay your bills. Everyone does.

Cancelo is worth a lot more than 20m. We bought him for 60m.

His new deal was a 2 year extension to summer of 2027 so a little less book value than your estimate.

We bought him for £60m back in 2019 (although we only paid £27.4m as Danilo was part of the deal) - when he was 25.

At 29, he’s clearly going to be worth less than we paid for him.

Clubs also know we want rid of him as he’s on a long term contract with high wages, and he’s fallen out with Pep and half the squad.

In that context, I’d say £28m is a pretty good deal.

More than covers his amortised value, gets his wages off the book, and his negative influence out of the squad.

We have to view this as an unusual set of circumstances given how quickly it soured after signing his new deal, so we acknowledge this is the cost for getting him out of the Club.

I think we'll try to get a bit more but at the end of the day he's in his age 30 season, on high wages (4th or 5th highest at the club I think?), and Pep might not want to ever play him again. Might not be a bad time to cut our losses

When we sold Torres he was a first choice forward for Spain scoring freely and had played well for us when chosen. He had a long term contract and was one of Spains most promising players. The fee at the time was not considered high by most observers.
