It is a barm though, a muffin is a cake.
No, the answer is in the name. It’s a barm cake (barm being froth off ale) and an English muffin, not muffin cake.

Both are acceptable but from my childhood it was always a muffin. From experience I’d say that barm was more to the coast of the northwest and muffin to the east. I think it was because Manchester was more cosmopolitan than the riff-raff over there ;-)

Can we add the bap to the conversation?

There does seem to be a discernible sea change in attitudes. Just reading the various HYS articles on BBC Football and amid the usual vitriolic diatribes from Scum and Bin Dippers, there does seem to be an increasing number of neutrals and supporters of other clubs who are praising and complimenting City’s business in the transfer market. Might be just me, but I’m definitely noticing a difference

Actually they have been pretty quick for once but only so they can tell us he is the second most expensive defender ever and that he was in the side that lost 7-0 at City. YCNMIU.
So he was in a team that lost 7-0 to us. So what I played for my school team that beat every game. At the weekend I played for s team that we hadnt lost for 3 years, and moved to the London league to get a decent match lol.
