was city even interested in buying him? there were only newcastle rumors for a while (and i think he made it clear that he wanted to move to england). liverpool rumors started not long before his release clause expired. i can’t be sure of course but i don’t think he’d refuse city, especially since erling and joško are his friends.

He's a Steven Gerrard fan and we had opportunity to show interest prior to Liverpool or even at the same time. In his interviews for Liverpool, he didn't exactly state any single mindedness to join Liverpool because he was a fan etc, just that he saw the rumours and that Liverpool were the only team that made a concrete move. We didn't really show any proper interest which is the curious thing.

Because he had made it clear Liverpool was his preferred destination.
