I think the idea about a panic buy may be somewhat of a misnomer, realistically you could say that akanji was a panic buy but more likely is that an opportunity arose and we jumped at it

He was a low risk buy to add some depth to the squad, I think he probably played far more games than anyone thought he would do

That's he difference. Take Pogba for instance playing for France compared to him playing around the shite at the scum.

I'm not knocking Paqueta. I don't think I've seen enough to make a true judgement but it is a reasonable assumption to think that City have. As for Maddison I think he comes across as a nice lad in interviews (as did Declan Rice) but, in my opinion, he is an arsehole on the pitch and simply not good enough. Rice is not good enough without being an arsehole. At the end of the day, City seem to get most things right.
As for Pogba, he is on the medal podium when awards for being an arsehole are being dished out.

Price is what it is the market is an absolute mess and it's not going to improve anytime soon.

It's really all about managing the net spend. If you're balancing your books it doesn't really matter if you're dealing with hundreds of millions or pennies, The price tags are just something to talk about. If City were in the habit of being fleeced then why is it we keep getting stronger in our financial situation by the day. Relax people and be grateful that we support a club that's not afraid to step up when necessary to make the moves that will keep us at or near the top.

I don’t think it’s really about that Matty. More to do with the fact that we’ve only got 4 senior attacking midfielders at the club (and one of those is DeBruyne, who we’ll be lucky to see again this side of November). Grealish, Foden and Bernardo and, er, that’s it. That would be considered threadbare for a 5 game season, never mind 55.
We‘ve already seen Alvarez pressed into service (ineffectively IMO as well) in midfield, and the only other options are untested kids, McAtee, Palmer, Bobb etc.
Paqueta and Doku look like ’must have’ purchases at the moment, albeit that they’re both grotesquely overpriced. What are the alternatives?

This has shades of the feedback I got when I was delighted that Ronaldo wasn’t happening, it was all doom and gloom on the forum, talking about the alternatives etc, and we won the league!

Now before people start I’m not saying I don’t want Paqueta to come (look at my OP), I just think he’s a risk at such big money.

But as always, trust in Pep

The panic element is going with the size of the crazy fee that is being talked about? Newcastle got 23 year old Tonali for €50m. Brighton find top players outside the PL for bargain fees. Maybe we have to spread our net wider if West ham insist on exorbitant fees?
