Kind of interesting thinking about the reaction to this window early on when we lost Gundogan and Mahrez, to us potentially bringing in: Kovacic, Gvardiol, Paqueta and Doku. Looking like Phillips is being phased out.

That's a really good 4 players to get in, all really good on the ball. With Kevin out for a while, it should be strong enough to challenge on all fronts.

I suspect, with current personnel available, the side is perfectly set up for every tactical variation Pep wants, he now has:

1) A complete abundance in control midfielders: Rodri, Kovacic, Bernie, Paqueta

2) 6 defenders that can play in a back 4, and in particular, Gvardiol AND Stones means Pep can bring back Double Inverted Fullbacks if he wishes too.

I think the ultimate 11 of these players involves playing Rodri as a CB who can push into midfield (doing the Stones role from last season). This forces the back 5 to consist of the most "competent" ball controllers, so when under a heavy press they are least likely to make mistakes, but also the best passers of the ball as well.

Gvardiol
Dias
Stones

Rodri
Kovacic

Foden
Alvarez
Haaland
Bernie
Doku

Defensive Depth: Walker, Akanji, Ake, Paqueta, Lewis (he might play higher in the future) - 5 players

Attacking Depth: Grealish, Palmer, McAtee, Bobb, (KdB when fit benches a starter) - 5 players

No room for Gomez and Perrone.

If Bayern do want Ortega we have a big problem as they will be promising first team football. I think city will let him go which is a shame as I think it’s the first time that ederson has had competition for his position. Not sure which way we’d go next but would have to trust the club. Hope it’s not keeping Steffen as back up. Don’t rate him at all.

When was the last time we did that with a player? When the buying club met our fee, that is.
Bernardo Silva? We gave him a new contract instead. We relucantly sold Sane to Bayern but at least at the time we had adecent alternative.

Nobody has met our valuation of him and he’s on a long contract.

2nd choice keeper is a different kettle of fish, especially when he has the opportunity to be number 1 at his country’s most successful club and potentially national keeper for the Euros next summer.
We don't have cover ourselves. At least with Sane we did. And if we bought in a new keeper it will still cost us. Which is why I don't think we will sell him this season.

Not sure what Sane has to do with this apart from going to Bayern.

Barcelona? Although heavily linked.

Shall we both stop being daft. We both know better.

I can't think of a player under Tixiki that the club refused to let go, when they wanted to leave and the buying club offered close to valuation.

Doubt it would start with Ortega.

It means if we don't have any one lined up and don't have good cover we'll refuse to sell. Or make it expensive for them to do so at short notice.

Again if we had someone suitable lined up or in Sane's case we rode it out.

Its dead simple there is absolutely zero upside to this deal for us and the player is under contract, bayern or not it doesnt matter, the season has started, its going to cost us a fortune to find an adequate replacement and there is nothing in it for us to sell.

The arrogance that bayern and barca have is astounding, they genuinely believe that if they want a player that all other teams should just say here you go have them.

Yeah, but 2nd choice keepers are always hard to keep if they turn out to be good.

Txiki has lists of players to replace pretty much everyone in the squad.

Ortega would be mad not to take this opportunity and if we got £20m for a keeper who’s played about 10 games for us, then we’ll let him go.

20m not a chance, we literally just sold a kid for 19m, basically we are weakening ourselves and then all other teams know that we need a second choice keeper and charge accordingly, there is literally no upside to this deal for us and bayern can go and whistle for it or pay 50m.

West ham know we need paqueta at this moment in time and are charging accordingly, same as every other team and bayern will get no special treatment, if they want him and he wants to go they will pay accordingly, if they want a cheap deal il think theres a certain ddg not doing v much at the mo
