Kalvin Phillips

Giving him a 6-year deal was a brain dead move. The club is stuck with him in a similar way the rags are stuck with Maguire. I suspect "fight for his place" just means that he is comfortable not playing and picking up his paycheck.

I respect his self belief. We hired the lad, if he intends to fight and learn the system then fair fucks to him.
As is his right. We gave him a contract - can’t moan that he expects to fulfill it or at least try improve or fight for his place.
I agree in a sense fair play to the lad,but is he actually going to get game time,if we suddenly had a raft of injuries in midfield ( god forbid) I still don’t think he’d be played the lad should move on ..

I would like to see him play in the next 2 league matches. It's very hard to figure out the whole Kalvin situation because we have all seen a good player for England/Leeds, but Pep never seems to trust him, not even against poorer opposition. Sheffield and Fulham are the perfect opponents for him to show what he is about, IMO.

I don’t know. But he sure knows more about his own situation than anyone on here

Far from ideal but its his right and its absolutely fine, just as long as he does exactly that.

Because if he doesn't soon start performing and justifying his existence,he will be in for a very rough ride. The team cannot afford passengers and/or pisstakers.

He has the contract so we can't force him to leave. Ake did the same and turned it around, sadly I don't see Phillips doing the same. He could be our new Danny Mills!

I'm not sure why that keeps getting peddled out......because of course we all want him to succeed.

As for the rest, there has to be middle ground......of course join in with the group, enjoy yourself, but also keep your head down and concentrate on proving the club was right to sign you......because right now,it appears he is more Scott Carson's apprentice than Rodri's.
I agree with your post, but my perspective is just a little different.

I still think that if Liverpool come in with an acceptable offer then he'll be gone. I can't and don't believe he'd turn down the chance to play games if his personal terms were to be comparable to those he has with City. His current situation cannot continue, even though it is his right to honour his contract.

Unless Pep has given him some encouragement then there doesn't seem to be a point in sticking around and ruining his international chances. To be fair his replacements aren't significantly better either.
