Bernardo Silva signs new contract until 2026

Cancelo went in January for all intents and purposes.

Gundogan replaced by Kovacic
Mahrez by Doku
Laporte by Gvardiol

Bernie extends.

I wouldn’t say we’re weaker and we won the treble last season.
It could be argued that we are weaker, but only if it is assumed that the departing players would continue to perform at the same level. Generally performances dip with age and we have perhaps in the past been slow to replace ageing stars. Refreshing whilst at the top is how you perpetuate success, hopefully. So whilst sad to see the departures, I’m with you, we are evolving, not weakening.

Correct you should never stand still or things eventually catch up with you. The. Main problem is the injury to de Bruyne unless Foden can somehow do the job consistently.

The fact there is apparently a £50 mil releas clause in the contract kinda dampens my enthusiasm for this tbh. I reckon city knew they couldn’t afford to lose him this summer on top of the other outgoings so this is a compromise between all parties for one more year.

Could do without the nonesense pr videos as well and how much he “loves the club”. It’s obvious if Barca had the cash Bernardo would have left years ago. It’s just a pay rise for a year

Marvellous, marvellous news. Goes a long way towards offsetting the disappointing news about Kev. (Although just been told yesterday that I might have to have surgery on my left knee, so you and me together, right, lad?)
I actually don't think we're weaker than last year. I saw no evidence of it against either Newcastle or Burnley. Erling just has to get in the groove, but he wasn't far off. He was an angry man during that Newcastle match — angry with himself. Hat trick incoming…

Whether he goes next year or not, as a fan, I am happy. I am sure he is happy, and so is the club. Everyone wins.

On a side note, the interviewer didn't ask him about fatherhood and the new dog, Charles (just John). Otherwise, good interview.

Who knows, but IMO that's a fair reading of the situation. We've persuaded him to stay for another year by giving him some more money and an easy exit option next year.

Glad he's signed for another year, but it looks like we'll be doing this dance again in one year time.

I don't doubt he can do it brilliantly. But, let's be honest - consistency has been a problem for him.
I think it's hard to make a call until he plays in the middle for a decent chunk of games/time, and therefore has the chance to perform to the level against Newcastle consistently.

I always liked him as a player (except when he was scoring against Madrid in the Champions), but he seems to be intent on leaving and then changing his mind every summer. Not sure whether hes constantly posturing for salary increases or hes just needy as a person.

Has anyone confirmed when the release clause becomes active? Hopefully not till 2025.
