Don't misunderstand me, reputational damage is mostly for domestic consumption, it plays well with die-hard rags and dippers and that's good for clicks. But down south they don't seem to care that much, they certainly don't at Chelsea.

But for young nippers, wherever in the world they may be, they don't know about, care or understand FFP, but they do know about Haaland and Grealish and goals and winning and trophies.

And no one much cares about FFP in Japan or Korea either, or anywhere really much beyond our shores.

They are convinced that their sector of business ie football is special so that experts in investing elsewhere eg Sheikh M are out of their depth in it.
When this untruth failed despite their FFP manipulations they assume we must be cheating otherwise the truth would destroy their whole cult.

Actually they feared our owner and tried unsuccessfully to strangle his early investment strategy but dare not admit it.

Why the investigation took as long as it did you would have to ask the PL. The charge against the club is that for 10 years our accounts have been dodgy. That leaves us trying to prove a negative, namely that the accounts are legit. Which involves wading through the source material - the contracts, the invoices, the email trail.

Given the material that the club is compelled to provide I’m not surprised they wanted it heard in private. (A) all such proceedings are conducted in private, and (B) the nature of the material we will be relying on is completely confidential.

Having done nothing wrong and still wanting private information to stay private are completely consistent with each other. I’m sure you’ve done nothing wrong but if someone asked you how much tax you paid last year you’d tell them to mind their own business.

To hit us with allegations going back to 2009 (before FFP even came in) suggests Masters and his pals are acting in bad faith. Their broad motive is unclear but it increasingly looks just like an ongoing smear campaign against City. It is difficult to see what positives the PL can get out of this even if they win the case. Perhaps Masters knows that his career is over as soon as this case is concluded and he is just spinning it out to keep his bosses at LFC and MUFC happy till the superleague is revived. The sheer scale of allegations means the case will last many years and the PL lawyers must know this.

This is the bit I don't get. Sheikh Mansour does deals worth billions in this country all the time. He bailed out Barclays Bank. To produce fraudulent accounts (as the PL claims) would involve a conspiracy of hundreds of people over a decade. It would involve all our major investors, auditors, Manchester City Council etc. It can't be true because if it was there would have been a whistleblower. The discredited Der Spiegl (Rui Pinto) emails are irrelevant to the latest PL allegations which are much more serious.

Agree 100 per cent. The PL would have just sanctioned us if they had any evidence. They have tried to kick it down the road but Masters is so stupid he thinks there will be no repurcussions for defaming City over such a prolonged period to keep his bosses happy. His laughable performance in front of the Commons Select Committee told you everything about his capabilities. He is out of his depth.

They didn't have to go to an independent panel if they wanted to sanction us. If they had the evidence they would surely have acted.
