Athletics Thread

Typical yanks, Mu has been given a wildcard to run in the women's 800m despite not taking part in one single diamond league meeting all season. She's now eligible to win the 30k first prize, bet the other girls aren't happy.
Seriously? Surely that can’t be right. Wildcard to run in this one event, but not to win the big 800m prise for the whole Diamond League season?
Scandalous if so!

Yes she's eligible for the prize money but not the trophy, it stinks.

Hopefully this wildcard bollocks gets binned off in future. I'm not sure if it's the first season the hosts have been able to hand out invites or not.

The next 4 Diamond League finals after Eugene are all taking place in Europe, Brussels and Zurich having 2 each. There's also 1 extra meeting next season, so no excuse for not competing and hopefully no more wildcard bollocks shoehorning yanks in, that shouldn't be there.

The stadium doesn't even look anywhere near half full, the yanks really don't deserve to get an event like this.
Yeah, and the inserts of field footage from earlier in the day are even worse. Outside the Olympics, they just don’t have the athletics bug over there do they?

Shame for Hudson-Smith; you especially don’t wanna be pulling up when there’s cash on the line!

It's strange because they have so many great athlete's as well. Any European country would sell this out well in advance.

Unlucky that Neguse didn’t go past Ingebritsen in the mile. But well done to Mills for an excellent 3rd place there. (Danny Mills son).

Can't believe that is supposed put him third on the British all time list. He was out with the washing there. Still a great effort though.

Just checked, he's behind only Cram and Coe over the mile now on time, faster than Ovett ever ran :0

Sure Kerr and Whiteman can run much quicker than that though.

Just caught up on this, that mens mile and the women's 1500m were ridiculous. Looking forward to tomorrow's action.

Shame about the attendance, Europe just does athletics better. We'd have sold the London stadium twice over for those stars on show.

For anyone who doesn’t want to sit through the whole thing,
BBC3, Womens 800m due off at 10.19pm tonight followed by Mens and Womens 200m at 10.36pm and 10.49pm to finish the programme.

Great run from Ingebrigtsen considering he ran lightning quick yesterday as well.

He learned from the losses to Wightman and Kerr, wouldn't let Kejelcha past him on that last bend.

Watching it now on BBC3

I enjoy watching athletics and while I don't know any names since the days of Cram, Coe, Ovett & Carl Lewis, Ben Johnson (and Alan Wells) ..........that run by the winner in the womens 5k was phenomonal, fantastic achievement

Really enjoying it and will stick with it for the duration of the evening - especially as MOTD2 will only have one goal to show from todays matches!!

(Footnote - I also remember Whitbread, Sanderson and Daley Thompson!!)

But yeah, really enjoy watching athletics

A bit bizarre of him looking over his shoulder so close to the line almost cost him.

The British will beat him in Paris :)
