Athletics Thread

I've just read that Femke Bol is running the 800m next season. I wasn't expecting that. It's going to be very interesting watching her, she will obviously be the quickest over 400m by a long way but can she adjust to the distance and the tactics now she's not running in a lane on her own?

Interesting decision, makes sense for her as I think she'd be more competitive over 800m than 400m flat.

400mh doesnt make sense for her any more as its too easy without SML.

She's obviously got to build the strength and middle distance endurance but I think she'll be competitive in the 800m.

I think the current crop of 800m runners will push that WR close in the next 2-3 years.

She’s traded SML for KH!

Btw, 12.15am tonight …

Yes, had countless drug tests and gender tests throughout her career and passed them all.
She didn't even plan to run that race, ran it at the last minute.
Very suspicious.
The cheats were far ahead of the testers in those days. I guess some still are but not to the same extent. I mean looking back everyone behind the iron curtain was involved in state sponsored doping at that time, they basically took over women's athletics.

She must be very confident with what she has done in training to make the move up in distance, because she's head and shoulders above the rest (barring SMG) in the 400H, and is guaranteed gold, especially next year with it being the European's.

The two question marks are, can she run a very fast 800m, something like 1m54s. And can she adjust to running in a pack of runners instead of having her own lane the whole race. Will she have the tactical know how to make the correct decisions on the fly? She might be head and shoulders above the rest, or she could be back over the hurdles before the end of the season. It's going to be an interesting watch either way.

Re your second question, years of 4x400m relay running should be of some help I reckon.

Kiplimo on course to break the marathon world record in Chicago. Could potentially go sub 2 hour but might be a stretch.

Always been a talented young athlete, so makes it a bit more trustworthy but we still have to be sceptical. Rosa athlete too.

Falling off of the pace now.

Interestingly, Keely said yesterday after the Athlos meeting, that having other runners around her trying to disrupt her race might be one of Bol's big challenges.

Btw, anyone who's not watched the Athlos meeting it's on YouTube. A Women's only event and I guess the last race for most before the indoor season gets underway.

Ruth Chepngetich, the women’s marathon world record holder, has been banned three years after testing positive for a banned diuretic in March and admitting to doping violations

Not good enough for me. Ban isn't long enough and in general the punishments aren't harsh enough.

Time for dopers to start having every record and medal stripped from them, even if they were clean at the time.

The fact her marathon WR still stands is a disgrace. She didn't break that record and then all of a sudden think right I'm going to start doping, she was clearly doping prior to it.

Yes Athletics needs to sort itself out. When you look at the bans there is very little deterrent.
