I went to Cathoilc schools in the 70's & 80's, there was pretty much a 50-50 split, and the rest of the town I grew up in was about the same. Apart from the above mentioned half 'n'half hats I was never aware of any sectarianism or links to either glasgow club until the late 90's when some people started talking about it on the internet.

I think none of it is real, it's just a myth put about by irish rags, I always assumed it was started by Matt Busby.

I’ve met plenty of jock’s on holiday whilst with the lads, both Celtic and Rangers and nearly all of them prefer City over the Rags.

I’ve posted before during a game v the Spuds one of “ours” sat right behind me in the Main Stand at Maine Road shouted out “fuck off to Belson”, he had to be carted out by the Police for his own safety. The fella who sat in front of me with his daughter (who played Elsa in Emmerdale) told me of the large Jewish community who followed City including himself and they tolerate a lot but any mention of the Holocaust is not acceptable, really top bloke as well, looked like Michael Winner.

That is fine but in my post that you quoted, did I even say there wasn't a City version?
I never said you didn't was just putting up a pic of the ones I remember seeing abp
out school, never saw a united one though, was showing how different places had different experiences of these bobble hats

Well essentially I was trying to agree with you about the Irish connection, hence the reason I said you never seemed to see a Rangers one attached to the Rags/Scouse hats but plenty of Celtic.

The conversation seems to have moved course a tad.

You couldn't buy any City gear in Carlisle when I was young, it had to be ordered in from a local sports shop, rag and scouse gear all over the place, that is what it was like being a City fan for me, I never saw many City products kicking about.

Do many local kids support Carlisle United now or are they all drawn to the Premier League?

Actually, Carlisle has had a bit of a renaissance on the crowd front, getting 7k+ and sometimes over 10k, I think this weekend there will be over 12k for the Derby County game, a lot of this is on the back of the return of Paul Simpson, dragging the club to promotion last season, ahead of schedule and on a pittance of a budget.

On the youth fan front, there have been a lot of new youth fans and a push for them to form a sort of ultra style group in the Warwick Road End, flags, drums etc, tbf they make quite a bit of noise.

I would think they still had a prem team tbh, you see a lot more City shirts around now, but our son is a Carlisle only fan, so maybe I am doing some of them a disservice.

The wife is a big Carlisle fan and as we do nothing but work normally, she decided we should go to games (a strange type of date night scenario lol), she has always gone prekids/marriage home and away, we took the kids until they wanted to go with their friends and then stopped going.

So I have been to every home game this season for my sins lol
