Manchester’s Changing Skyline

Great 3rd picture, post 2,536, by Ferge.

With another 10 towers to go up in that same picture shot in the future.

What are you including in that ten JRB?

5 from the Green & Lighthouse, two for contour, one for Whitworth Street Wes, one for Axis 2? I make that 9.
Any others I've missed?

If I'm correct?

5. Lighthouse + the 4 towers around it.
2. Contour.
1. Deansgate South. Student Accomodation. Domis onsite.
1. Rumoured Viadux 2nd tower? Stretching that a bit atm. Nothing confirmed in public yet.
1. Stay City / Deansgate. A mere toddler in comparison to the other towers, but at 22 fl it should have a considerable impact at the end of Deansgate, right next to Beetham tower.

Just out of picture, Vision, Domis currently onsite. St Michael's, which will have an impact on Deansgate the other way. Domis fencing around the synagogue.

Proposals for a 28-acre complex boasting 25 pools and more than 35 waterslides have been approved for a second time. Attention now turns to getting on site before the end of the year and bringing the ambitious plans to fruition.

Therme UK’s £250m Trafford City scheme is one of the region’s most eagerly anticipated projects and has been in the pipeline for several years.

Trafford Council first approved plans for the resort back in March 2020. At that time, the developer anticipated the complex would open to the public in 2023.

I`ll be surprised if Theme and Surf City ever see the light of day jrb

A Manchester ‘Old Town’… but new! Yeah that would be good.

The skyline is one thing and looks good from a distance and when you’re standing in certain spots and looking up… but, from a footfall point-of-view when you’re actually walking around Town, some more architecturally interesting lower story buildings would be nice to have.

I always think a city is only as nice as its roads, pavements, street signs, street fences, traffic posts, benches, bus stops, bins etc. and the feel/look of its ground floor buildings.

I suppose it’s a case of never knowing who is ever going to invest in any of that sort of stuff.

Such as what, out of interest, any examples?

I have thought that at times.

But there's too many big hitters involved in Therme for it not to happen. The redesign, for the better in my opinion, has certainly put the start date back. I think and hope a start onsite will happen this year.

As for Modern Surf I don't think that will happen. There have been no new updates or new news for months.

Another day, another...

HERE WE GO

McCrory Brickwork are overjoyed to announce that we have secured the masonry package on the prestigious St Michael’s project in Manchester City Centre and we will be working with our good friends at Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd. As part of our works for this package we will be undertaking blockwork across 13 levels of the building, including the basement, lower ground floor and ground floor. We will also be installing windposts and forming builders' work holes for mechanical and electrical services and providing and erecting scaffolding to blockwork walls. The duration of this project will be 16 weeks and we are delighted to have ALREADY started.

I work in Trafford Park close to the Therme Manchester site, previously Event City, so I will post regular construction picture updates

A rehash, but very positive reading.

The planning decision coincides with the appointment of Professor David Russell as the first UK-based CEO of Therme UK, which demonstrates a shift in Therme’s focus from design and planning to delivery.

With 30 years of experience in delivering large-scale projects, Russell has been involved in major projects around the world including the London 2012 Summer Olympics, The Rugby World Cup in Japan, and the $8 billion Expo 2020 in Dubai.

He will be supported by Richard Land, the chief development officer of Therme UK, who has successfully spearheaded the planning process
.

Russell said: “Therme Manchester will be the UK’s first city-based Wellbeing Resort.

“By successfully delivering Therme Manchester we intend to create a new wave of urban wellbeing with attractions that include botanical gardens, immersive art, urban farms, education activities, fitness programming, and live entertainment, all in addition to our family zones with slides, evidence-based therapies, thermal bathing, swimming pools, warm water lagoons, and multi-sensorial saunas.

“Our ambition is to make a difference in millions of people’s lives through the life of the Resort.”

Plans for a new 154-apartments scheme in North Manchester have been unveiled.

The 25-storey tower will help to kick-start the regeneration of the neighbourhood, including vibrant ground-floor commercial spaces for the underutilised site at the junction of Cheetham Hill Road and Park Place.

Look at Oast House, as one example:

IMG_4418.jpeg

A new-ish building that isn’t just a glass and fibreglass(?) panelled cuboid. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a neighbourhood or district in Town of low level buildings that looked like this at various sizes and shapes, hosting shops, homes, cafes, bars, offices etc.? Something a bit different and unique to Manchester that brings a bit of a different cultural look to the place?

They don’t even have to look like that specifically, it could be something else. Just something other than this sort of thing:

IMG_4428.png

Which isn’t unpleasant by any stretch. Just that, architecturally, could be in China, Australia, USA, Rotterdam, Monaco, Napoli or Rome… anywhere. It’s what could possibly be described as ‘21st Century Worldwide Bland’?

In 2020, Denton Corker Marshall joined the Cortland at Colliers yard Design Team at RIBA Stage 3 of the project, being appointed as Executive Architect and Lead Consultant. Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, our team worked tirelessly to document and deliver the construction packages for the scheme.

Cortland at Colliers Yard is a mixed-use development located in the new and vibrant Greengate area of Salford, which borders Manchester City Centre. The Cortland development consists of a 50-storey residential tower above a four-storey podium that incorporates resident’s amenity areas, co-working zones and retail units with extensive food and beverage outlets.

Fast forward to September 2023 and we are pleased to announce that Cortland at Colliers Yard has recently reached completion. We are excited to see residents moving in and are confident that they will settle quickly into their new living accommodation and enjoy the fabulous amenity spaces.

We would like to extend our congratulations to everyone involved in the project.

I'm off work next week. Thank the Lord! I'll do a construction roundup. I'll do Middlewood Locks, Salford and wherever else my feet and camera take me.

Regent Plaza update. Crane going up! :-)

Source Developments - Linkedin

Our Regent Plaza development in Manchester is making great progress. Block C internals are moving ahead at speed, with Level 7 internal walls and ceilings now complete and ready for plastering. Bathroom tiling on Levels 7 to 4 is finished, and work is ongoing on the lower levels. Staircases have been installed in the townhouses. Block D crane base piling is now complete and fully tested, with the crane base construction underway. The Slipform Rig assembly is also complete, and it will begin sliding this week to allow for the trailing deck installation.

Completing soon, The Bailey is a stunning project in Manchester - boasting an incredible location and unrivalled tenant demand prospects. Construction on the site only started late last year, and we are seeing apartments approaching completion already.

Located in the prestigious M15 postcode with views of St. George's Park and Deansgate.

We were delighted to join our client, Scarborough Group for the topping-out ceremony at Railings where 189 new residential apartments and townhouses are being built and are available for sale.

Over 50 special guests gathered including Deputy Ceremonial Mayor of Salford and ward councillor for Ordsall, Tanya Burch, and the Chinese Consul General, Rui Tang. Senior representatives from SGI’s joint venture partners Metro, who flew in from Singapore for the event, Salford City Council, Homes England and the delivery team were there along with our BCEGI's senior team led by our Lead Director, Dongwen Yu.

Identified as a key strategic development opportunity more than twenty years ago, the 25-acre brownfield site where Middlewood Locks now stands has already been transformed into a thriving new mixed-use neighbourhood, directly connecting Salford to Manchester city centre.

A very big thank you to the entire project team for helping us achieve this important milestone.
