still think he forced Pep to start him each game during the transfer saga :), because the way he is starting now no matter what compared to last season is quite the difference. we had Stones and Akanji playing RB last year few times, Rico too, before changing to 3223 formation etc. now Walker has the RB spot tied down with added freedom of playing in the whole right side.

that sushi dinner or whatever they had where Pep convinced him to stay, wonder Walker was able to negotiate hell of a lot of playing time there.

He was decent but his holding the width is pointless when he's such a poor attacking fullback. Opposition defenses almost don't have to worry about him. IDK what the answer is.

Didn't like him and Dias absolutely screaming at each other either. Show some composure, lads.
Walker playing so high and wide is hopefully just a temporary thing because of the obvious issues we have in the centre of midfield.
Reminds me of the 19/20 season when we did the same with Mendy on the other side - and every team we played was just happy to let him have the ball, knowing there was minimal threat. And Mendy was obviously a much better / more dangerous crosser than Walker.

Once Rodri is back centre mid should be sorted. The main reason he’s playing so high is to accommodate Haaland, Alvarez and Foden we have nobody playing on the right. The balance of the team looked so much better in midweek.

Now being reported that walker refused to shake Jovers hand because he refused to shake walkers hand last season when we beat them. That makes a lot more sense now and fair play to walker if that's the case for not tolerating the hypocritical ****. Didn't need to escalate it into a full on argument though, refuse it and walk off.

The story I saw was

We beat Arsenal twice last year. Both times City players offer Jover, their old colleague, a handshake afterwards.

This time Arsenal win, and as the players are walking off, looks who’s waiting to shake their hands now he’s won a match but Jover.

So Walker tells the City players to refuse it and that’s what kicks off the kerfuffle.

I sort of like it from Walker, and I love that he’s a serious leader for the team now, but at the same time if you refuse to shake hands after a loss, you’re conceding the moral high ground to someone who refused to shake your hand after a loss aren’t you? He’s just done the exact thing that he was angry at Jover for doing.

Would have been better to shake his hand and remind him how he behaved when the roles were reversed.

Needs a break mid week. Looked slow as fuck second half. Recovery runs were very laboured.

Get a rest as we need him for rashfords pace next week With akanji out

I thought he struggled quite badly against Mitoma but in fairness he is one of the best wingers in the league and it's unrealistic to expect him to pocket every winger he comes up against.

Much like my comment in regard to Pep, I promise I'm not trying to be reactive. You could even check my comment history if you wish as I was against giving him the extension before he signed it(certainly for the years he got), but for me, the negatives outweigh the positives with him. The fact that he's now captain potentially complicates things even more in regard to him being dropped.

Maybe Rico Lewis gets skinned by Mitoma today as he did for their goal but at least he'd give us SOMETHING from an attacking standpoint.

Looked like the old warrior he is today.

Second half Mitomo ripped him apart, time to give me a rest and recharge his batteries.

I value him highly, but he seems like he’s at the age where he shouldn’t be starting every game. To ensure both his longevity and injury prevention and to ensure he can crush anyone he is up against on his day. And to start working someone in as a back up in that role.

Eta - I don’t think he’s any slower than usual. It’s just I think he’s someone that might benefit from some rest now and again - it feels like he’s playing more this season than last. And we’ll need his legs at the end.

This forum makes me piss. Same old shit written about Walker season after season. Three years ago I was reading on here that he’s lost his pace, then proves everyone wrong by out pacing every winger he comes across. Caught up to Vinicius Jr last season despite being caught flat footed and gave him a head start.

Mitoma is class, he’d cause problems for any fullback.

I feel like I've seen him get done for pace more already this season than any previously.

Rico Lewis would have likely gotten skinned by Mitoma as Walker did too... but at least he'd contribute something to us in the attacking third.

Walker is still fast as fuck. Pace isnt his problem, i think stamina is though but hes not the only one. A lot of the team seem to drop off after 70 mins. Its pretty common for us in the first period of the season, were always a little undercooked by design.

i think kyle just needs managing a little better.

Wingers only get ahead of him due to their acceleration, which Mitoma did at the weekend. Anything under 10 yards they’ve got a chance, this has always been the case with Kyle.

Difference is Rico would have been skinned more often during the match.

That’s not too far off mate, two things that go first in athletes around/after 30, acceleration/reaction times/reflexes (Linford Christie referred to it as ‘the B of the Bang, which is a good way of putting it), Mitoma’s stop/start style very much tested Kyles reflexes rather than his top speed.

Plus your ability to recover, as the saying goes in sports “it’s not what you can still do, it’s what you can recover from”, don’t think Kyle’s quite at the stage he needs a weeks recovery, he’s an elite world class athlete (the only footballer I’ve seen come close is Sylvan Distin) his top speed is probably not far off in his prime either once he gets going, a few years ago, he could sprint up and down that right side full throttle 10 times and still be pretty fresh, it’s been noticeable to me 18 months ago that he was struggling after a few and needed a breather.

He’s still he’s a phenomenal athlete though.
