I disagree with you on many things blueinsa but never find debating with you unpleasant mate.

Much better you going blue to black and back than just stopping posting under one name and starting another without letting on who you are or were, before going into Exile.

Everyone is decent, it’s a forum for debate not the inquisition, as long as it’s done civilly

We are all City fans that binds us, but most of all we are human beings, I do wish people would be a bit more flexible in their thinking, it’s ok to change your mind after reading a counter point

I can honestly say this forum has changed my opinion on many things. In fact I would go so far as to say this place has almost acted as a sanity check for me at times. It is definitely healthier than many of the more toxic echo chambers you can find online. If you’re ever in a place where you never read anything you disagree with then that’s when you should worry.

Usually opinions don’t change straight away though. I’ll go away after discussing something on here and stew on it for a week and then eventually accept my position has changed.

There are some topics I rarely wade in on. Mainly because I have a mantra… don’t take a position in any debate unless you know your opponent’s arguments better than they do. Usually it’s not so easy to stick to that in practice but it helps prevent getting entrenched in positions that it’s hard to walk back from.

I’m not convinced that everybody is decent mate, although I think that a majority in the world are.

I think when it comes to UK politics there are a good number of people who’s general world view is that they reserve the right to not care about anyone else, and that is the very definition of a lack of decency. I actually believe that this is the heart and soul of the culture war both here and in the US.

All parties have in recent years done more to encourage people to stand for office. It's an important way to get greater diversity.

Now, the main barrier to encouraging people to apply is the abuse they're likely to get, on social media (and perhaps more damagingly in the comments section of local newspapers that go unmoderated). And (forgetting neutrality) local Tory councillors are behind some of it.

I strongly expect very much behind it is the fact that MP's and councillors are leaving for many reasons but mostly ill health and not wanting to end a political career on a defeat.

New recruits to replace them is tough for similar reasons. They can see polls so many won't want to start a career with a defeat ( something Churchill and Thatcher whom they would claim to be their heroes did ) plus being in a minority opposition they would wield no power so certain - shall we say - ahem "opportunities" will not be open to them to enhance earning potential. Just a further knock-on stemming from the ruinous Johnson corrupt period in office
