They felt so sure they’d win. May was the same when she had her first run with corbyn… maybe minus the V’s…thought no one would vote for him so she didn’t campaign. Nearly lost it.

It was the arrogance of politicians mate, some posters do it on here they try to smear because you don't vote or think the way that they do.

Corbyn had his chance but Corbyn fans would disagree, they'd have had him in the hot seat until the man with the scythe came for him. Starmers biggest threat is from his own party, the reason the tories have been in so long is because labour have been so shit.

FFS!
No he isn’t accountable directly to the commons.
He can be called to answer questions in the Lords.
There is nothing unusual about this.
You seem surprisingly ignorant of U.K. constitutional procedures.
Thanks Denis. Wasn’t that difficult was it?

Did any of the others call a referendum where unelected bureaucrats were a large part of the debate?

Then we get to my first message on here today.

It seems those that want to stop the boats etc. don’t care about codes or laws.
They don't. That's the scary thing about the populist right, and what marks them out as fascists. They despise the rule of law, just as Adolf did. What they don't 'get' is that we have to relate to other countries, and all the civilised ones accept the concept of the rule of law. However inconvenient that may be (at times) to the executive branch.

Once you abandon the rule of law, we are all fucked. We have no security either of person or property. Sadly, thickos cannot grasp this. They assume that the executive will always treat them benignly. It never works out like that. To quote Thomas More 'if my head would win him a castle in France, it should not fail to go'.

If Labour don’t get in at the next election, they may as well just disband. Any credible alternative party would absolutely wipe the floor with this shower.

Wouldnt bank on it. Lots of the south are tory stronghold what ever the Tories do.

Where I live is a run down seaside town, lots of mental health problems, drinkers, drugs, high unemployment high homelessness, the hospital has had a top manager parachuted in to sort it out. Stroke unit moved to over an hour away. You get the picture.

Yet this area has been Tories for 50 plus years apart from the odd occasion.

But there are still lots of very well of people that like to live here. A cheap house is 250k lots of top end cars. A very divided community

plus the vitriolic murdoch media harvesting the floating sheep, the sun had 184 headlined personal attacks on corbyn, as well as carpet-bombing the EU

The left have, for as long as I can remember, had so many misaligned churches of thought that has split the left vote which has let the tories in time and time again.

Starmer’s problem is he doesn’t have any money to do things that would appeal to the left nor the levers to really raise it. He needs at least 2 terms but can Labour resist tearing itself apart long enough to give him that?

I’m not convinced the Tory party will exist in the past… unless the Labour Party want to exist in the centre for eternity?

100% out next election which is why having Cameron in is smart. Hopefully the current government can start to clear up some of the mess before a changing of government. Look on the bright side we’ve got rid of a highly divisive figure and replaced her with someone who doesn’t want to mine the English Channel.

If they lose seats to Reform UK and Lib Dems, they might. The Tory party isn't just unfit for government it's unfit for opposition. Damaged and dying brands can't always be refreshed.

The power of the papers has surely waned in this day and age?
You'd think, but then TV does its best to keep them relevant. Every news and current affairs ends up being driven by what's in the papers, and increasingly nowadays, what's on Twitter. So you don't have to buy or engage in these things to find them infiltrating the things you do.

They need a reboot for sure mate. Labour have shown how you can move from landslide defeat to landslide win. Although helped by an incompetent government which I don’t expect Labour to be.

Optimistic. Starmer would need 10 terms: he is a man who is unable to make decisions. He will get in and do nothing of note.
He was useless as DPP.

Own original thought.

We earn money from work, pay tax. Buy stuff, they pay tax, they buy stuff, pay tax etc etc. Within 19 transactions the government has taken 98.5% of that money.

I understand that the government regulates the flow of money, it was the only difference between communism and capitalism being time that interested me.

I stated that the remain camp stooped as low as the leave camp, every day calling people stupid and thick.

If they would have played it clean they'd have won.
