Go back to what worked. Have your 3 mids and have stones as a cb stepping in to midfield to make the box 4 that woked so well. Fuck walker off and play akanji there to cover the channel when stones steps in.

this selection is just a continuation of the 3 games that saw us concede 8 goals.

BUT pep is the master, in him we trust.

Be it Akanji, Stones, or Lewis, someone has to watch Tielemans and stick to him like glue. Villa play their best stuff when he gets into pockets of space and releases their front men.

No Ake again for Gvardiol is surprising

Perhaps the extra control in midfield that Stones and Rico will bring means he prefers Gvardiol’s threat going forward rather than Ake’s solidity at the back.

That said, I’d have picked Ake at centre back before either Dias or Akanji

Me too. And Ake is also a goal threat, one of our best defenders too. Strange choice....

I struggle looking at the starting 11 and thinking the midfield looks weak, even more so with Phillips, Nunez, Kovacic on the bench. That said if Stones stays fit and Lewis plays well we could still control the game.

Walker really had to play tonight but is pep going to play him every game now he is captain! It's just when we had four centre backs last season we looked solid as a rock!

Our bench isn't great. We don't have a lot of options if things aren't working out. Pep probably won't make any subs anyway though.

I can't see us not conceding with that line up. If we get anything depends how clinical we are going forward.
