CFG Expansion | Başakşehir to join? (p70)

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but good news and bad news for fans of our Chinese club Sichuan Jiuniu. We won the league last year (China league one) and were promoted to Chinese Super League for the first time.

However seems as though the CFG have done an MK Dons, and moved the club from Chengdu to Shenzen (1700km away). There was a team from Shenzen last season but they were dissolved, so looks like we've decided it's a better market (probably is). The team has been renamed Shenzhen Peng City.

To be fair, the club isn't even 7 years old, so it's not like CFG have come in and trampled on centuries of tradition. I'm sure there are business reasons for the move. Shame for the regular match day goers, though can't imagine there are a large number of them.

Africa is football mad with a lot of support and appreciation for City.

It is however a poor country with generally poor facilities, infrastructure and administration.

Merchandise tends to be snide.

Corruption is also institutionalised.

Is this the reason why we don’t own or have an affiliation with a club or are there other reasons ?

The business reasons being Shenzhen is one of the fastest growing (both in size and financially) cities in China. It is a ‘football City’ and we have a decent supporters club there

I think there are some countries that even the Emiratis can't do business with. You would have thought that we would have a club in Argentina by now and even Bahia in Brazil, surprised me.
Some of the eastern European counties have dubious ownerships and supporters. I love Greece but I wouldn't go anywhere near a football club, even with a billion to spend- you'd have to pay in cash anyway.
