Russian invasion of Ukraine

Zelensky thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the soldiers of Group 13 of the 9th Department of the GUR for the destruction of the Russian Large Landing Ship in Crimea"Today, security in the Black Sea and motivation for our people have increased. It is important. And we will clear the Black Sea of Russian terrorist facilities step by step

Something going on in USA news - a national security threat from Russia having some weapon in space... No details.

Most likely the source of today's debriefs. A possible nuclear weapon in space was sent by Russians 5 days ago.

We just launched our tour of brave Ukrainian frontline medics right outside UK Parliament in London. The medics brought with them a bombed out ambulance to show British public real-life consequences of Russia's attacks. In past 2 years alone Russia killed 190+ medics in Ukraine

190 medics have been killed hope out government try to help more I’m sure we could do more

The head of the US intelligence committee, Mike Turner, warned of a serious threat to national security, which was communicated to all members of Congress.

Turner called on Biden to declassify all information about this threat so that Congress, the White House and allies can openly discuss the necessary actions to respond to this threat.

Earlier, Turner sent a letter to congressmen, in which it was said that the threat was associated with “foreign destabilizing military capabilities.”

CNN's intelligence sources say the threat is related to some new Russian capabilities that US intelligence recently learned about. The Hill's story says nothing about Russia.

A meeting has been convened for tomorrow, at which National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will brief the G8 (which includes House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries).

That's all the information up to this point.

ABC news say they were looking at putting nukes up there for anti satellite stuff. Make of that what you will.

If it shits the yanks up and gives them a kick up the arse then at least some good comes out of it.
That's what I was thinking.

I am not sure why they would need a nuke to blow up a Satellite. That seems a little extreme. Surely conventional weapons or a laser would incapacitate a satellite.

Purely from a nerd perspective, less debris flying about to cripple anything else. But I doubt those clowns are bothered about that. Could all be media speculation at this point too.

If it is a nuke in space its how you create a powerful EMP weapon. You know the stuff of bond movie baddies.
Seriously fucks up any electronics which isn’t shielded and radiation hardened.

Would a nuke being activated in space stop it being detected?
Absolutely not. If you want to get all physicsy about it the scintillation effects in the ionosphere alone would cause issues with radio comms systems over a very wide area. You would almost certainly also detect the high energy E1 part of the pulse caused by gamma radiation ionising molecules in the upper atmosphere and the resulting EM wave.
We can detect the faintest echoes of the end of a stars life when they explode in a supernova thousands of light years away so it’s pretty clear that detecting a nuclear detonation relatively close to the Earth is very easy.
