RE: The president's power, I heard this on a podcast this week. In 1982 when Israel were massacring Lebanese civilians this time, Reagan finally had enough of trying to reason with Likud, snapped, phoned up Menachem Begin and told him to stop immediately.

20 minutes later the bombing stopped and Reagan said to his aides "I didn't know I could do that".

Without getting all "Deep State" about it, I do wonder how much US policy and particularly the president's actions are determined by what some american Humprey Appleby charater tells them they are allowed to do, or what protocol says, instead of just what the POTUS wants to do. When it's someone old like Biden or stupid like Trump then that goes 10 fold.
 


Something that was inexcusable and indefensible and should have been done from the beginning.

The problem being this is like closing the barn doors after the horse has bolted…and this might become reversed in 9 months…

About as easy as it is for you to ignore the fact that Netanyahu has made sure Hamas remain in control of Gaza rather than let them put someone in their place who might want a peaceful solution.
