Middle East Conflict

I don't think it is beyond the realm of imagination that hamas would hold fuel back from the general population to be used for their own needs.
And I'd say that if there were any fuel in them and Hamas were still holding it back or using it for solely it's own military purposes on a daily basis then its would soon go bang. There are multiple teams of Journalists on site and nothing but a fuel shortage has been reported.

Surprised it hasn't already gone bang tbf.

If Manchester was attacked and thousands were killed in one swift terrorist act followed by continued attack every single day then would everyone be calling for a ceasefire and restraint? No. They'd first and foremost want the maximum amount of force to be used to stop the threat.
I believe I’d be saying don’t get sucked in, give your enemy what they palpably want, and unleash forces that you may not be able to contain.

I still doubt the US will allow a ground invasion, they are very concerned about the conflict spreading, and affecting their strategic interests, cooler heads may be to the fore, they are staring into the abyss they know that a ground war will tip us all in

They can’t defeat Iran from the air, nor with sanctions so it would have to be boots on the ground, and that’s not a good prospect
Didn't General Petraeus say a few days ago Gaza invasion could be a new Mogadishu for IDF.

I don't think Americans are so concerned about Iran in military terms, even less Hezbollah which follows its own peculiar internal politics. How many times Israeli AF smashed their bases in Syria and they never reacted with more than an odd rocket.
The problem is this obvious cooling off in diplomatic talks between Saudis and Israel that will spread to other Arab countries. American (and EU position) in the last 10 years has been the lasting peace will be achieved when all Arab countries in the region establish full diplomatic ties with Israel. Palestinians became totally irrelevant and the west can easily live with them herded in whatever Bantustan Israel decides do corral them in.

The absurd thing about in betweens hypothetical situation is that of course it’s not hypothetical at all, is it?

Manchester was bombed.

7/7, dozens killed.

Lockerbie happened.

London Bridge, Westminster Bridge.

No one called for killing thousands of civilians to get revenge. We didn’t bomb Libya to fuck.

In the 70s and 80s there was a terrorist attack a week carried out by the IRA. Admittedly before my time but I think I’d have heard if Westminster replied by Shutting off all electricity to Belfast, blocking food and medicine coming in and dropping 6,000 bombs in a week.

We have dozens of incidents throughout history and across the world that prove that what’s going on right now in Gaza is not a normal or acceptable response to being attacked by terrorists.

Completely agree.

This attack by Hamas, of itself, did not represent an existential threat to the State of Israel (unlike the Russian invasion did to Ukraine) and yet it is being characterised in many quarters as such.

It happened, as much as anything, because of catastrophic failures in Israel security, not because of superior military might.

Oh come off it. Your numbers are complete garbage.

Jewish population in Palestine over time.

1839 - 9,000.
1880 - 23,000.
1914 - 94,000.
1931 - 175,000.
1950 - 1,200,000.

Those numbers are from the Jewish Virtual Library btw.

If you can't even acknowledge that as a sudden influx of Jews from zero then what will you actually acknowledge? Going from <1% of population to over 30% in 80 years? That's not just a sudden influx, it's unprecendented, a 13,000% increase.

Now of course there was always going to be a massive influx of Jewish people in Palestine after the decision to create a home state for Jewish people, but you have to accept that massive influx happened. Pretending that there were always huge numbers in the area is simply dishonest.
Complete rubbish? I was 6,000 out.

There was no such thing as ‘Palestine’ in 1839 or 1880. There wasn’t even a people called Palestinians then. They were just Arabs in the Ottoman Empire.

I believe the US is very concerned Iran could block the gulf shipping lanes etc, as well as causing trouble throughout the region it could create economic chaos in the west, which its new found buddy Russia will be delighted with
