Poor today, struggled and gave the ball away constantly

he made some strange choices at times.

Still not getting all emotional over him like some on here

How many goals and assists against the top teams in the league ? 0 against Liverpool, 0 against Arsenal, 0 against Villa, 0 against Spurs, only 1 assist against the rags.
Scored against Liverpool last season, Madrid in the CL, others as well. Haaland is not great in the big games as well. We are generally worse this season in those games, not just Julian.

Pep needs to rethink his approach about control if he wants Alvarez in a deeper role even with KDB being back from his injury.

today was really visible when up against serious press, lack of time to make passes, lack of space too, Alvarez were passing with like 56% accuracy that is piss poor and then lost the ball in duels as well a lot.

asking him to play deeper or left wing is too much for him to deliver. Pep wants to give him game time clearly lot more than to someone like Nunes or Kovacic.

There are games it makes sense to play him. Liverpool away isn’t one of them
Unless he’s playing striker. Does not have the control to play midfield. We ALWAYS look wide open when he played there.

He did a great job for us earlier in the season when we were without key players but we cannot now keep shoehorning him into the team when there are options who are quicker than him in pace and thought and he is also leaving us too top heavy

not a winger, not a midfielder. not his fault imho. only 56% pass accuracy today.

that theory that he has to play so he doesn’t leave, would pep really do that?

I said before the game picking him over Kovacic would kill us and I feel pretty vindicated right now.

However I don’t think Pep has ever made a tactical “overthink” that I haven’t thought was a totally fair decision when he’s explained it, so hopefully he is asked about the decision and his reasoning in the press conference.

I'm talking about this season, he was very good at the start of the season but has been very poor for a long time now even if he gets the occasional goal or assist against poor sides, but it's mostly not his fault since he's just a striker put in positions he can't play.

In terms of performances, The Alvarez "experiment" hasnt worked against mid table sides, so why would it work against Liverpool at Anfield?

Pep sometimes has a habit of persisting with things until they start working, but I think it's time to give up on this one.

Played as striker in those games. No question over his ability there, he’s just not suited to playing midfield, especially in a Pep team. It’s a weird blind spot Pep has. It’s like pep suddenly values running over control.
