North Stand Construction Discussion

If they get this right (which they won't) they should make this new end the cheapest part of the stadium but make it accesible to long serving and vocal fans. They could even sell the season tickets on a points basis. They could address so many issues at once. Atmosphere and ticket price unrest. The two are almost hand-in-hand because it's the working class fans who make the noise and who are the most disillusioned. Also the PR would be superb: club of the people and all that.

What an opportunity they have. They blew it once with the south stand extension and I bet they blow this one again.
It should be for our hardcore only, no SK postcode, no ticket

I would hate to be the guy disconnecting and reconnecting those 7 catenary tension cables to the new anchor.

Well done @supercity88 and @Coatigan for their informal way of informing us what is happening with the roof, very helpful work they guys, keep up the good work.

@jrb is allowed to have his opinion on what is thinks is right, he not having a go at anyone on here. If he thinks the club are doing wrong he is allowed to say it.

Just like I don't like the fins on the hotel or the roof on the fan zone, I am allowed to post about it. It's not up to certain individuals to tell us to go elsewhere

Like a majority of City fans, we were sold on the idea of City having a home end like The Kop or Yellow Wall and that is what a vast majority of city fans want... At no time with the club questionnaire were we told that they were going to shove a GA+ section in the middle of it.

So until the club says that they not doing this @jrb and the 1894 are within their rights to have a go at the club

Interesting observation. What are your thoughts on the quadpods?

Now I see the light!

Chunky, but we see why. I previously noted that I thought the backstay cables to the rear were in the way of the back of the tower coming to ground, and assumed that's why they started at the top. But that still left the question of how they carry on because they couldn't get the top piers on till that happens, and that can't happen till the cables are disconnected, and the cables cant be disconnected till the load is transfered, to ultimately the top new piers. Vicious circle.

But now I see they are cantilevering it diagonally, so they can disconnect the cables, then build down, then build up. then build out. Then disconnect the front cables. Then remove the old pier.
Mind-fry.

Still looks mental that all that tension is fed back to those 'wonky' towers, without tying them back to the ground at the rear, but that's presumably why they are so chunky.

It is so so so tight though, the whole thing. You see how much the existing top sways in the wind just in the drone videos, never mind maneuvering round all that new steel. And then how they shimmy that old pier out amongst all that, will be something to behold. Or whether there is any way to segment it. Most folk will probably not find this stage that intriguing and will look forward to the roof, cladding, seats etc as the phase to get excited about, but for me this is the most interesting and probably complex part of it.

I must have missed a backlash? I'll read back. Just clarify. I wasn't saying Danny Wilson or the club were doing anything wrong with their NS redevelopment update video and press release. It's welcomed. Especially for City fans around the UK, Europe and the world that aren't fully up to date with the plans and construction of the NS. Hopefully there will be more in-depth and onsite updates in the future? In the meantime we'll keep on updating this thread with information, pictures and drone video footage.

Actually, I was telling @Coatigan before he came round to it yesterday ;)

The best conclusions are the ones you take some time to get to!

You were the only one completing the first part of the puzzle about the removal of the supports tbf. I’d genuinely never even considered it tbh although it made sense after reviewing the cross section and seeing them go through the terracing.

City Matters and the 1894 Group have the next meeting with the club on the North Stand a week on Monday.

It’s my understanding that the club will be bringing some more concrete plans on things like seating and hospitality.

Based on the research I have seen (both produced by the club and elsewhere) and my own opinion, I’m quite clear that I want the North Stand to be a vocal, atmospheric end, complete with additional new season tickets. That said, if people do have strong opinions that it should be something else, then I will get that across.

Happy for people to leave comments here, or equally send me an email at: alex.howell@citymatters.co.uk

Please push that we want it as OUR HOME END, going forward this has to be it, not our most vocal fans moved in cup games. Thanks Alex

Alex.

Can you ask the club why there were so many Real Madrid fans in the home ends all around the ground. Ask the club why and how so many Real Madrid fans got tickets in the home ends. The club must know as they distribute and sell the tickets. Ask the club what plans they have to stop this next season in the CL latter stages, and to sell those tickets to genuine City fans instead. With so many away fans in the home ends it has led to trouble and fights breaking out.

Keep up the good work. :-)

PS.

Can you ask the club for an update on the proposed 700 GA+ seats at the front of NSL2. Are they staying or are they going?

Are there any plans for safe standing seats on NSL2 or NSL1 regardless of the quantity and location on either tier?

Are there any plans for a singing section on NSL2?

Will standing be allowed on NSL2 or will sitting be strictly enforced by the club and stewards? Which could cause problems with fans determined to stand.(block 109)

Are there any plans for cheap season tickets and cheap match day tickets on NSL2?

Will there be a block put aside for the vocal younger fans with cheap season tickets and cheap match day tickets?

Will fan flags and banners be allowed on NSL2?

When are the club going to announce the seating plans, season ticket, match day tickets prices, etc for NSL2?

Does the club see the North stand and NSL2 as a proper home end? If so, how are they going to create that? If not, what do they see it as? Is it atmosphere over match day revenue, or revenue over match day atmosphere, or is there room for both?

Thanks again.

If Alex asked all those questions he'd be even more unpopular with the club hierarchy then he probably is now.

They'll be far happier when they ask Angela Worrall if she has any points to raise and she answers that she hasn't.

Is the cablenet system for the roof quite a rare way to build such a large roof? Looking at pictures of similar sized stadiums there doesn't seem to be that many, I'm guessing this has made things a lot harder than 4 'independent' roofs that don't support each other?

The club will have read the questions and will have the answers to the questions before Alex hopefully asks the questions.
