Centuries and centuries passed and peoples lives never changed, the speed of change because of social media and technology is at a light speed by comparison.

There are effects of social media on kids. I'd argue by far the main victims of that are the kids themselves and their teachers, and it mainly affects things like concentration and focus.

The point is that people have complained about the lack of respect and discipline of children since time immemorial. And in every case, they’re compared unfavourably to some fictional time when all kids were delightful angels who did exactly what they were told, didn’t speak until spoken to, and called everyone sir.
