There is probably two, PSG and us so doesn't really seem necessary and even then I would be floored if PSG bother. They have big issues with Mbappe leaving then adding this lad to their midfield.

I don't see him going back to France and PSG have other issues to address. He and his wife visited Disneyland Paris in January and that prompted social-media speculation that he was heading to PSG, which shows how ridiculous rumours are. There are always clubs in England, though whether they'd match that fee is quite another thing.

Pay that money for an established central midfielder (ala Rice) and the player must deliver immediately. If not and they take time to settle (even the cheaper Phillips/Nunes), then that leads to questions over their suitability and Rodri playing more. It's another reason why I'd be inclined to sign Neves from Benfica instead. The fee would be as high, true, but the ceiling is probably higher and the support would be patient (cf. Gvardiol).
 
If this lad has a £100m release clause I don’t see anyone getting him this summer
I can see Newcastle digging their heals in which is their right
It does though mean if you are willing to pay, a deal is pretty straightforward.
Could maybe see Ortega going to them

I literally have no idea why City appear to have any interest, especially given the numbers being floated. Just doesn’t seem to fit the dressing room profile, but it’s hard to know.

Does NOT strike me as a player who commands anything like £100M.

Not sure City have appeared to have any interest in him ,or in anyone for that matter,other than maybe Paqueta, just twitter.

We will,but from what I’ve seen Nunes is far closer to an Ake than a Phillips.Either way the odd bad transfer has to be factored into any football business plan, luckily these days we have a lot less than most.

Guimaraes has a release clause (100 million) that can be activated in a narrow window; if the clause is activated, then the player can decide to leave. If the clause is not activated, then Newcastle can set its price. Howe says the club is happy with the situation because it means it can plan its business accordingly and knows it will not face a protracted storyline over the summer. Quite how knowledge of this clause entered the public domain is uncertain, with some suspecting Newcastle of flushing out buyers, and others suspecting Guimaraes' agent of touting his player.

Based on reading the Newcastle forums, the optimistic among them are hopeful he will remain, while the pessimistic among them, of whom there appear to be more, are already resigning themselves to him leaving.

I think he fits perfectly. One thing that’s always struck me when I’ve seen social media stuff with him is how likeable he is as a person. He seems to be a genuine guy, down to earth. That, along with his football ability, has long been what I would call City’s profile of player, is it not? Plus, Portuguese and English speaking, so will fit in like a glove. I think he’d be a guy that binds the dressing room in time, being able to get along easily with everyone. Kind of like how Bernardo has become the heartbeat of the dressing room for similar reasons. And that will need replacing.
