Rishi Sunak

I'm not sure Rishi Sunak (valued at £629m apparently) or a party that many claim are too full of rich people are REALLY that arsed about 7 months of a £91k a year salary in London.
I think they would be arsed with losing the privileges, salary, favours and other benefits that come with being in the position though. So I think a fair point!

Sunak and his cabinet might not be arsed about the salary but I bet a lot of their back-benchers are. Particularly those likely to be on the dole after an election. It's a further 7 months to polish their CVs as well as to collect salary and favours.

They will quite happily keep taking their ministerial salaries for another 7 months. I mean, why wouldn't they squeeze every last drop out of being in office? A sense of honour, integrity, or maybe strategic guile, you say? Yeah... no, I don't think these are qualities that this lot possesses.
I think it’s more about the buzz and trappings of being in power rather than the money for the multimillionaires in charge.

and as night follows day ......

does anyone else think the Tory candidate for London mayor looks like that woman in red from the video from Sunderland where the guy with the porn movie tache says “they’ve scored?”

To clarify, I’m not saying they’ll continue to pick up their salaries because they need the money. Here I’m just using “picking up a salary” as another way of saying “staying in the job” - which they would want to do for the reasons west didsblue states.

Starmer should call his bluff and tell him labour will lose the general election because the Conservatives won the mayor vote so now would be a good time to call it.
Or a journalist could have suggested that to him...

Defo not on their record , he got that right lol

he is just playing politics. That lecturn has a Govt crest on it so should only be used for Govt announcements. The speech he makes is Party business NOT Govt business so he should be using an appropriately liveried lecturn OR as its clearly heavily sponsored the Think Tank the Policy Exchange he should be using one provided by them.

Poor advice/general ignorance or wilful neglect of the rules applicable? Probably a bit of all three.

I'll go for none of the above, and go for deliberate choice.

Makes it look official, makes TPE look official.

Here is the speech transcript - hard to find as its not in all the usual places - confirms the Tories are not at fault for the last 14 years which were not bad anyway - we are strong ( despite hollowing out all the services, armed, NHS, police etc etc ) their past record shows they are the future not Labour ( coz Starmer is a bogeyman ) and the fix for all the ills is punch right down to the bottom and hit all benefits and means test pensions

On the BBC news they showed him being applauded by a load of old white blokes seated behind the first few rows that were presumably the journalists.

You don’t get applauded at a press conference normally so wtf was that about?

I’m hoping it wasnt the journos clapping him off stage but with the uncritical questioning and complete acceptance and broadcasting of his nonsense and lies I can’t be sure of that
