One thing that's always puzzled me is that it was clearly intended to be a cantilevered terrace, and could easily have become the base for our hardcore support.Couldn't find any of the concourse, but not see this before.

Me too, my first City game. I was eight years old.City's away kit,it's not Blackpool.Berts testimonial game I was sat in the Platt Lane that evening.
I might be wrong, but I think the club were forced to install seats when the rules around the proportion of a stadium that could be terracing were changed. One thing that's always puzzled me is that it was clearly intended to be a cantilevered terrace, and could easily have become the base for our hardcore support.
However, the board soon changed their mind and within a year it was all seated.
A bit strange, especially as it reduced the capacity to 52,000, despite Maine Road recording 3 crowds of 53,000+ in 71-72
