Kalvin Phillips

It is Football, Right at the top level (Manchester City) some players take to it like ducks to water and some don't.
Some stand-out players doing very well at other clubs like midtable Leeds then it's easy to see why Phillips stood out. But the jump to the level of City comes with the pressures of having to do it from day one.

At Leeds, He was never asked to perform every week, That is the difference when you come to Manchester City under Pep, Phillips could cut corners at Leeds and maybe be 80% fit and get away with it, But under Pep at City player there is no cutting corners or anywhere to hide.

That mistake last night was shocking, But then TV highlights showed Phillips not even trying to get back well sorry you are finished at City and can go on a free transfer, Cut our losses and get him off the wage bill.

Everything that has needed to be said about Kalvin has already been said. It isn't nice to have spent so much money on a player and it not work out. It is even worse for a player who seems to have gone into his shell, with a career on the ropes, unsure of his next move and doubting his own ability. I feel for Kalvin a great deal and I wish him well for the future. It is obviously not going to happen with us because it is clear that he is below the level of talent required and we made a mistake. Every mistake he makes is highlighted and discussed and you can see that an error really affects his game. I hope he can rebuild his confidence and get his career back on track.

I think we might have ruined him :( We are talking a starting English International here. Not some run of the mill 3rd division trickster we took a chance on.

His confidence is beyond shot! :(
I get his confidence is shot but to me he looks like he doesn't even want to be a footballer anymore.
His lack of effort is shocking.
I can forgive him not being good enough (Jon Macken), I can even forgive mistakes but I can't forgive a lack of effort.
Sooner he's gone the better.
Nice guy or not.

Think if Leeds get promoted this time, they may come back in for him.

He's one of those players that's made for one club only, and for him, that's definitely Leeds United!

People seem to assume this, but they've a different manager now and I can't see why they'd want to sign him, other than sentimental reasons. They don't owe him anything and there are far lower-risk younger options out there. Even if he halved his wages that would be a lot for a newly promoted team.

The sooner southgate gets a club position the sooner we can offer him to him ;-)

Seriously thoug the needs to choose his career now, if no one in the prem is coming forward it may mean a pay cut, may mean dropping a division, but he is at an age where the last few years can be fixed and he has a decent run for the rest of career.

Otherwise send him to NYC on loan

Career or an income for your family??? He’s bound to wait until he gets an offer that suits him (not us)

The NHS are always looking for nurses and he is a really nice lad apparently?

yeah but when a carrer change would probably mean the the income for your family is probably not dropping below 30 grand a week you can be a bit more choosy than someone earning 18 grand a year.

He has 8 years left in him at least, he can rake in over 2 million in that time, he has the option to put whether playing football is more important, he can still live very comfortably and save for post football life for him and family.

Don’t they know he can’t play in claret and blue?! Ask Moyes!

It’s all well and good him saying he wants a permanent move, but City have always been clear in this dept…

If you want out, bring us the right deal and we will shake hands and say goodbye!
If all you want is a permanent move, that's easy to sort out. We're hardly likely to be demanding a big transfer fee at this point. But what you usually find is that they don't just want a permanent move, they want a permanent move and for their wages to stay at the same level. That's trickier to arrange. I remember Micah Richards saying that he took a massive pay cut to go to Villa (which ended up being an even bigger pay cut when they got relegated). Some players are willing to do that. Others are not willing to give up the fat contract they signed and end up spending their peak years being loaned from club to club or sitting on the bench. I guess we'll see what sort of player Kalvin is.

When you say “career change” do you mean do something different (which he can’t do!) or a club change - when nobody really wants him?? He’s not going to drop divisions because it would be the start of a huge drop in income. 8 years isn’t long so he’s going to take the most lucrative option whilst he can - which at the moment is staying put
