Kalvin Phillips

I hope he has a john stones year. Stones was once almost sold but the following year he proved his worth. Give this kid a chance. I think he will be pretty good as a center back.

Don't you put beloved Jonny Boulders in the same bracket as Phillips!! Haha

Stones is quality. He'd shown his level many times over the years before that apparent selling (which was him essentially turning down any move because he wanted to stay) which can't really be said for Phillips.

I hope he can be used, though. Having a centre half who can play good (midfield-esque) passes against a mid-lower table PL side at our place would be a game changer. Teams sit back and let us have the ball, his range could be something useful.

He's here now and nobody wants to come in for him, may as well make use of his assets while limiting the level of opposition who can prey on his shortcomings.

I said this in the other thread but Pep didn’t even trust Joško to play as a CB last year, his given position and one he has played against high level opposition. No slight on Kalvin, but do people really see this happening?

No, I agree with you.

He is a decent Center Back :)

This can be true after he has played at least half season as a CB without many errors.

Right now we know that he won't ever make as a CDM, that's why Pep used him as a CB, where we lacked players due to holidays. Stones, Ake, Akanji, Ruben weren't available.

As a CB Kalvin didn't have to receive the ball under the constant pressure, compared to CDM position and had more seconds to make decision and pass the ball to someone. That was the difference and that's why he looked there better than he looked playing CDM.

But CB is measured by stability, 10-15-20 games and therefore Kalvin has to complete that path, before any verdict can be made about his abilities as a CB.

Even Fernandinho struggled there in 19/20, when Pep switched his role. So I won't be so sure about Kalvin as well.

What’s he like at mowing grass?

Dihno was already old though. So some of that might just have been age

There is a possibility he ends of staying. We might as well find the best use for his skills. Right now, he has looked best playing CB.

Don't even suggest that he might be staying because alot of people will freak out around there if that happened

Most BM forum users would be wanting him to be left back…in the dressing room !
Made me laugh...reminds me of the kid who asked the coach after hearing the line up "what about me coach?". And the coach telling him you're starting at "left out"...

At least it's a good tactical position for any negotiations that we have a squad space, the money for his wages and he's a good lad to have around for everybody involved.
We are not under pressure to get rid whatsoever.
