Kalvin Phillips

Hopefully KP is sitting at home thinking about how he can do his best to use the current situation to help establish himself as a trusted option in midfield. At the moment I would be shitting myself if he started against Arsenal but if he put in decent performances against Newcastle and Wolves then I might be more comfortable.

It's now or never for him imo.

Yeah

And you would have to think his confidence isn't too high. He's fully aware he barely gets on the pitch unless we're seeing a game out and resting players, or an emergency situation like yesterday. So he knows he isn't being too highly rated and trusted in the same way others are. That has to play on the mind a bit and probably adds to the nerves if you're starting basically out of necessity. You're know you're going to have a lot of people judging.

But then again, you need to have an elite mentality to succeed at a club like ours. If you can't brush all that aside and it's going to affect your game to the point of it being detrimental to your performances, then you're never going to cut it at this level.

Not a bad cameo. Some really good runs but also some silly boots up the pitch to nobody.
WE occasionally needed those boots up the pitch à la Dave Ewing 'n Bill Leivers. Just gave us breathing space and if the Alty Tit was to award Forest a fictitious free kick it'd have been deep in their own half! And I was mightily impressed with Nunes when he toed the ball deep into the Colin Bell Stand. Isn't it a laugh when yer saw those red MIdlands shithouses acting as ball boys!

Let’s see how he gets on against Newcastle on Weds, that’s a far better judge of where he is at than yesterday, which was always going to be difficult as there were no outlets for us to move the ball about.

Phillips had a good game. Yes he made a few errors but he got us up the pitch numerous times when our players were tiring. Not being in Rodri’s league isn’t a crime.
Yes, he played well after a few nervous minutes, a few were on his back early doors, the lad doesn’t deserve that, what he needs is encouragement and support. He’s done exactly that for the team from the bench and not once as he disrupted the squad.

To play 45 minutes with limited match fitness with 10 men against a physical side is not easy.

He came on at a really difficult time in the game, and from that point on we limited Forest’s attacking options.

He lost the ball a couple of times, but he wasn't the only one. Worked hard to win it back.

I honestly don’t think it’s now or never. The decision was made ages ago - he has no future here. He’ll play v Newcastle only because we’d rather he played in the Carabao Cup than somebody important. Then he’ll be back on the bench with Kovacic and Bernardo returning, never to be seen again (unless we somehow beat Newcastle with our reserves and U18s)
