Who is available to improve our starting 11? Who is available to improve our squad? I only rally see us needing a alvarez replacement but u could say with savio coming in and bobb and mcatee staying th squad is quite deep. Another reason for not spending squad players this season is we are going to have to replace walker bernie and kdb next summer. Might as well save the cash for then. Also clubs might be even more desperate for cash next summer and we can pick players up on the cheap.
You'll never convince some on here with that argument!
Baring a mistake or 2, we fish in a VERY small pond these days. I'm with you, we're not signing for the sake of it this summer - if we're found wanting so be it, we've been in worse predicaments.
It would be nice to clarify Pep's position though

The trouble with this forum is you can’t have a negative voice. I bet if you head over to the Arsenal forum, they would be saying that City appear to be weaker, and the last two summer windows have proven that to be right. We’ve got the best guy in charge, he can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, but should it be that way?
There’s a definite shift in mindset.
Tolmie said the other day, we have all that Alvarez money to use, but then what about the other money generated?
There is a drop off, or complacency.
I suspect it is Pep leaving, rather than the charges.
The downslope always starts with one step….
Every club has its downslope. We'll just have to adapt our expectations when it happens to us.

We won with mancini, pelligrini won, pep is pep and has done insane things but the lack of trust in the people that run the club by some on here is borderline insane, im not suggesting we will perennially win everything but im not sure what more these guys have to do to show they know what they are doing. Now im sorry they havent given you a shiny new toy to play with in this transfer window yet but when we bought for buying sake with phillips and nunes we got slated for it anyway, now im no happy clapper and I'll call bullshit when its necessary but i really do think these guys have enough credit in the bank where we can say they know what theyre up to.

I was playing Devil’s Advocate mate, as there was some chatter of Bobb being a target for Newcastle earlier, wasn’t being 100% serious.

I rate Bobb as highly as anyone but I do still think he’ll struggle for game time sadly, purely as a function of how many good players we have up top.

If Bobb starts, then it effectively means that one of KDB, Foden and Bernado won’t be playing, and also that two of Grealish, Savinho and Doku won’t be playing as well. And that’s before we possibly sign another forward.

I know that injuries and the need to rotate means that not everyone will be available through the season, but when you look at it like that it does highlight how difficult it is for a young player to get regular games for us.

Rubbish. We wouldn’t be offering him a new contract or giving him a chance if he wasn’t good enough

Hope you’re right, but he’s Sheffield Utd level for me. Be honest, if it was a choice and we were a goal down at Liverpool would you want McAtee coming on or someone like Guimaraes, Olmo level?

The buzz words this summer have been rodri back up. Can't think of a club in world football that has a better dm or bk up dm than us (kovacic) yet some people think its an area that can be improved with everybody being happy.

Agree. Doubt we can find anybody better than Kovacic willing to come in and only play when Rodri is unavailable

We need another striker but have a similar problem with Haaland. Apparently Danny Ings is available

Barcelona let olmo go only to resign him, we let palmer go, sometimes players need to play with better players to shine, one player doesnt elevate a team tbf and gravitates towards its level.

I don’t see it with Mcatee the way some do on here to be honest mate but he’s better than Sheffield United. Bobb clearly more talented than Mcatee

McAtee will be far more productive in teams that play progressive, short passing football.

Similar to Foden. Look how he struggles for England in a system that doesn’t suit “small space” players.

McAtee would do really well in Spain, not so much for Sheff Utd or Brentford.

He’s a definite player mate and even someone like Leipzig or Dortmund would be good for Mcatee but not sure he’s now at this teams level

We have a spot in the squad now and some serious cash to burn, midfielder on the way in first and then a striker if required?

Alot of people thought palmer wasnt at this teams level be4 he got his chance, cant have it both ways

But the last two seasons have proven that to be wrong, as we've still gone on to win the league.

We haven't just got the best guy in charge, we've got the best owners and leadership team in world football; in fact you could make a case that they're actually further ahead than their counterparts, than Pep is of football managers.

They don't think about this season, they think about 3 or 4 years time, and probably another 10 years on top of that.

These folks will be experts in succession planning, and will likely have earmarked their idea of the perfect replacement for Pep.

So just let the on the pitch actions just deal with themselves, ultimately that is the output of everything that goes on behind the scenes.

If you think the tail wags the dog then I suggest you have a little more faith in those running the club.
