Alvarez replacement thread

Will have to don my full-body Kevlar for this one, I’m sure, but I’d actually be tempted to go for Sancho. I know, I know, I know, but please bear with me. Putting aside the fact that he walked from us, the fact that he appears to be a 24 karat walloper, and the fact that he has now danced with the devil- and I recognise that is a terrible lot to ask- he actually remains a really talented footballer and one that could be got relatively cheaply.

I watched Dortmund’s Champions League games last season and he was instrumental in getting them, a workmanlike them, to the final, and that was after having played precious little football earlier in the season. In the plus column, he knows our system, knows many of our players, can play in multiple positions, and already has an almost telepathic understanding with Haaland. It won’t happen, of course, but forgiveness doesn’t have to be divine, and I wouldn’t mind him having his last chance saloon with us. Talking of which, where did I leave my methylated spirits?…

Greeted with open arms by Pep I'm sure .

It really is. Alvarez left weeks ago and the club - we are told regularly - has a list of 3/4 targets and possible additions at each position. The moneys there, the scouting is there, and the time has been there. It can be addressed but they just haven't done it yet. They'll regret it if they don't.

We've likely very little time left with Pep at the reigns so to leave something like this to chance would be foolhardy.

The fact that we aren't looking for a world superstar either should make it an even easier need to fill.
So if we trust the club (which I assume we do) and they have done no deal despite the wealth of money and scouting reports, there is no deal to be done is there?

It may shock a few people but not everyone is banging the door down to join City, we are talking about human beings here, not robots.

Reading the new Perarnau book - Pep was desperate to keep Sancho but he insisted on being a guaranteed starter for the first-team during contract negotiations. At 17 years old.

Pep told him that wasn't going to happen (as he tells every player that isn't Messi) and Sancho goes on to not report to training.

As far as I'm concerned, and probably Pep/the rest of the club...Sancho can get to fuck. He made his rag bed and can now lie in it.

Fair enough, but he must be realising that his career is in danger of sliding now, so if he were penitent and contrite, then maybe we could yet find a place for him. Alas, I’m unsure that those qualities are in his character, so it may be the slippery slope for him and the waste of a prodigious talent.

Agreed. His talent is ridiculous - a brilliant player. But no chance Pep lets him back in after what happened. IMO/hope anyway.

I admire your bravery.

Also I think you have some great points. If he were to join I'd just hope that he had some humility and honestly tried his best.

I'd love that. But I'd have someonething in his contract that he couldn't ever leave for a red team 'cos you know that's all he'd ever want to do. In fact I'd have it in his contract that he could never wear red or relate to anyone associated to red teams in his family of friends. We would of course procvide new blue friends and family.
