Is this not also because European countries offered relief on VAT for energy during the peak of the energy crisis?

France has a reduced rate of 5.5% on energy. Germany has just increased VAT from 7% to 19% for energy this year.

Meanwhile the UK has done nothing and 20% of your energy bill has always gone to the taxman.

I think that, if you check your energy bills, you'll find that a VAT rate of 5% applies in the UK.

“It’s like one of those celebrity reality TV shows where you don’t actually recognise any of the celebrities,” said one recently departed Tory minister. “It feels like a B-list selection. We are probably going to make a stupid decision. We will have to get this out of our system in order to make the right decision next time.” Guardian

Should be a fun week in Birmingham.

It will still be treated with far more reverence than the LP Conference.

Tory K will be changing her love eggs on a frequent basis tomorrow morning.

Jenrick the parasite now with £75k donated which he says is perfectly legal and above board.

No, it’s not fucking all above board and it shouldn’t be legal. It’s money paid to buy influence and to steer policy and it has to be fucking banned asap.

With their majority Labour could add this kind of thing to their house conduct bill. Anyone voting against we'll know are shady bastards.

Badenoch, thick as mince, lets tell everyone that maternity pay is too much, in a country with a falling birthrate. You know maternity pay that only people who are already contributing by working get.

Nothing like disincentives for doing the right thing, but businesses just cant afford it. Its almost as if its impossible to provide some form of rebate for smaller companies so that they can pay decent maternity/paternity pay.

Every couple that fails to produce at least 2.1 off spring is reducing the population. Its the same across the developed world. You won't grow an economy without people - people to replace those who frankly die. Yet this is her logic - that and pick on the "lazy" folk who have kids and call them idle and indolent ( with the exception of the Johnsons and Rees-Moggs of their world of course). And the big problem? Immigrants. People like her are setting the country on course for the 3rd World.
