Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Howe clearly sent them out to play very physically and they should have had a few more yellows.

In saying that, the absence of the control of Rodri was glaringly obvious, and they were blessed with a very debatable pen.

This is going to be a tough season, but we're still unbeaten and we are a champion team.

Looks like the media are getting what they want from teams when they play us ...chaos.
Teams just steaming into us all over the pitch and then feigning when we stand upto them.
Bet Pep can't wait to play a team that actually want a football match

I will take a point but I might say that a few times since season.

Difficult for pep but Bernie outwide is pointless & doku for Jack was wrong today.

I understand he wants the old dogs on but they can’t play so many games. Foden & savi should have started or come on at half time.

Hard times ahead with injuries

I thought it was a very entertaining game, and a point each was about right.

Newcastle started both halves very well, but we gradually won back control.

A brilliant goal by Gvardiol, and but for a fantastic save by Pope, Bernardo would have nabbed a winner.

We’re still unbeaten and there’s plenty of the season ahead.

No place for Gundo and kova together unless we want to get a point.

Bernie in the middle would have made starting attacks easier. Savio is ready
To start, don’t shackle him for the illusion of control.

We won’t be leading the way this season more a hanging on job I think.

Pep talked about finding a solution. If he thinks that midfield 5 and specifically that midfield 3 is the solution, we can forget the league and we will be in a top 4 battle.

I’m sick of seeing Bernardo grazing out on the wing with his thumb up his arse. He played the last 10 mins in the middle of the park and was the best CM on the pitch. Kovacic has to play, I don’t think anyone would suggest otherwise but sticking Gundo and Rico next to him, gives us the slowest, weakest, most negative midfield this squad can put out on the pitch. I’m not having Rico playing at 8 in a ridiculously weakened midfield. Wanna put him there with Rodri and Foden/Bernie alongside? Might get away with it…not in that 3. It’s fucking suicidal. Rico is fine when we have 70% of the ball. When it’s basketball it’s like watching an U14s playing men’s football.

That set up today suggested we would create next-to-nothing and that’s exactly how it panned out. I’m not sure how Pep expected anything from what we got.
Ffs calm down

Can't keep a clean sheet (though it was a dodgy pen today), and if Haaland doesn't score none of the other forwards or midfielders can, defenders won't be saving us every game, I said before I was afraid we're relying too much on Haaland and I haven't seen anything to suggest otherwise.

Frustrating. Despite not playing well it still feels like 2 points dropped and not one point gained. Never really had control and a little too pedestrian for most of the game...

Ilkay which have much better days !

I disagree it being a fair point. Despite not playing great we coped with what they had to offer despite being harried. The match officials gave them a lifeline.

Think it’s a decent result in the end. Newcastle played well. Didn’t think it was a pen looked like there was no contact, although I’ve only seen it once. Foden made a big difference when he came on, people forget how important he’s been for us.
Obviously we want to win every game, but that’s impossible and because we’ve been so consistently good, a couple of draws means to some we’re going through some kind of crisis.

Which is obviously bs but I’m happy to let them think that.

Tough place to go to and they has a week to prepare for us.

We are without 2 of the best players in the world so any team would have a dip. With so many game and injuries Pep has to rotate

Pep said we would start slow the season slow and yet we are undefeated.

Im quite happy with things
Yep. We are steady away, rowing smoothly. Plenty of time to go.

Yep - agree with all that. Shows that not only do we have to get Kev back sharpish we need to stop teams seeing the Arse blueprint of constantly trying to stop us getting into a rhythm by using the famed dark arts - a narrative that I hate. We must dictate the pace of games better - something we always seem to do post Xmas.

Overall a good point but do I dislike Joelinton and Toinali they got away with about 3 yellows each.
Why not disliking the ref ignoring rules?

Not the easiest place to go, we only just won there last season with some KDB oscar bobb magic. I do agree with the comments about them being there for the taking but they might of thought we were too at times. My concern is that besides haaland, kdb has got 1 league goal and collectively the rest of our wingers/attackers have got 0. They need to start chipping in, COME ON CITYY!!!!
