But the real benefit was mass deployment and we were middle of the road on that front.
Also worth noting that the first jabs in the UK were Astra Zeneca and that jab was withdrawn due to issues with clots. I had that jab for my first one and have a lump in my arm. I blame that on Boris.
We may not be talking about the same thing. Under the EU's contract with AZ, AZ warranted that it had no obligation, contractual or otherwise, that would conflict with or impede fulfilment of the EU's contract - but it seems it did conflict with the UK's contract.That's really not what happened. Yep, our vaccine lead was for a couple of months in spring of 2021, after the winter 2020/21 variant had died down and before Delta kicked in. By the time Delta happened we no longer had a lead and were mid table in Europe.That's really not what happened. Pfizer was available at pretty much the same time as AZ. My missus got it within a month of the first jab because she was swabbing old people in care homes at the time, quite a few of whom had the virus and died.
Just checked and Pfizer was approved nearly a month before AZ.

It was approved first, but rollout was limited by supplies
The initial lead the UK had was because we had more supplies of AZ available. However, as Pfizer production ramped up (and AZ didn't, or not as fast as hoped), other European countries overtook us as per the graph upthread.

The EU would have coped with a No Deal Brexit much better than us. We knew it, they knew it, we knew they knew it and they knew we knew it. If we were stupid enough to let it happen, it wouldn’t have lasted long and they knew that as well.
Quite an admission. Adopting the Bloviator's negotiating stance - the political will to walk away - failed, because the EU did have the political will, and the clout to make Johnson crumble.

Tbf Brexit doesn't seem to have made that much difference either way to people's lives. The main difference seems to be that we don't have to put up with endless news items featuring farage and EU leaders.

It’s a pitiful sight, and almost exclusively marked by those the overreach, rather than those that look to be conciliatory. It shows how completely at odd with reality Johnson is on this subject, when he’s boasting about this when his approach has manifestly led to, by any objective measure, a terrible outcome, and one that could have been hugely mitigated with a more considered, civilised and strategic approach to the negotiations, and still delivered our exit from the EU - and done so in a way that was much less divisive and delivered something those who voted to Remain could have much more readily lived with.
The **** has caused so much damage to this country, and anyone still calling him ‘Boris’ can fuck off.

I would say the main discernible differences are getting goods in and out of the country and the enduring collapse of the pound. Along with the huge increase in numbers of migrants of colour. Plus the sad and avoidable impact on our relations with our neighbours and our standing in the world.
Other things like, for example, gradual loss of living standards or queues at airports are (respectively) less palpable (albeit real) or meaningful.
