Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Don’t for a second think we’ll win the league this season given the way we’re playing but I don’t believe it will be the end of the world. Get Pep to sign a new contract and go again next season.

Leaving out Doku and Savinho is not doing us any favours.
I think Doku is an impact sub. He has a lot to learn but worth his squad place.

if he can consistently put up numbers, i can see him starting risk/reward on magic/turnovers. Got a good chance with this run of fixtures to show some stuff

Pretty much turned out the way I expected it. Nerve wrecking at times and not overly convincing performance vs a really good side that still got us 3 points. That’s champions stuff.
Have we ever been that good this part of the season? Nuff said.

HATE BEING NEGATIVE BUT RED LIGHTS FLASHING..

Other teams are younger, faster, hungrier than us and we look old, slow, tepid, uncreative and cannot get balls through to our striker. MASSIVELY lucky tonight and had to work for it.

We need signings come January and we have to get them right as I think other teams will challenge us more this season since we're leaking goals without Rodri.

I have to say Haaland and Akanji were our best players today.. Gvardiol good.. Kovacic bit lucky with the goals.. but what a Doku strike. Great call to sub him on.

HARD EARNED 3 POINTS! Fulham are a really good team.. could see them snap top 4 if they keep this up.
Without KDB, Rodri, and Bernie who is not as effective as he used to be we are not at the expected level. It's by no means alarm bells but it will be much harder to win the title this year. Top 4 and a trophy I think is realistic.

Well that was an awful performance. We are so open to counter attacks its insane. Fulham probably deserved something from that.
didn't think it was awful. we beat a really decent side likely to finish in top 8. no not the level we are used to but 2 massive players out and Fulham were excellent.

I think the large transfer pot City are sitting on is intended for that refresh. Problem is that we have great but aging midfielders who are not rushing out of the door.

Some hard decisions may need to be taken next summer.

In the meantime, we must buy a young(ish) midfielder in January.
I think its likely to be a pivotal year. Irrespective of Pep renewing or not, we need to strengthen in all areas. I was surprised we didn't this summer but it feels like we are waiting his decision. Its notoriously tough to buy in the winter break so if Pep doesnt renew, a new manager is faced with a significant rebuild which does't feel right. The ideal would be for him to renew another three years to oversee the rebuild himself. Whatever, I think the next phase in our development is about to start.

Couldn't beleive only 1 minute of added time for the first half.

Fulham score, it took 1m 22secs for City to KO. That was due to Fulham players getting back to their own half.

City score, it took 1m 15 secs for Fulham to KO due to their players taking time to get to center circle. City were already in position and waiting.

There was the goal kick that took almost a minute due to players ignoring the ball, Leno having to stroll over to get it, stroll back to the 6 yard area, roll it to the full back to take the kick.

Then Raul fouls Jack, City take the kick, ref blows and stops play while Raul fucks about on the ground, all taking 30 secs.

And another thing, Leno's hand is outside the area as he bowls the ball out when Traore has that chance before they scored.

Bobbins imo.

Lack of control, lack of authority, very predictable patterns of play and very lucky Traore is as shit as he is.

Kev and Rodri shaped holes all over the midfield.

Great mentality to get the 3 points but we’re miles off our usual standards atm.

We pose zero threat on corners, and simply have no ‘free kick specialist’
The absolute worst for me is throw-ins,for a manager that has built a team around ball retention, we must have the worst ball retention in the PL from throw-ins, either throwing the ball directly to the opposition or losing the second ball, not to mention foul throws, the stats must be quite astounding!
This has been a weird issue for at least 5+ years. It's very consistent. A throw-in for us almost always means loss of possession.

Bernie provided 6 key passes yesterday so he was very effective.

I want Pep to stay regardless.

The average of our squad isn’t bad at all and I we have another young player arriving in January who we can hope is destined for big things.

A few of the older players will need to be moved on if possible and replaced next summer and then some more the summer after.

Just watched the game (couldn't before).
Muniz's goal right at the death. Extraordinary. Inexplicable. You have six City players in an exact circle round him, and not one of them is tight on him. That's why Ed is annoyed, I suspect.
Gundo — watched him carefully right through the game. it's not that he was bad. That word would be too harsh. He was just bringing nothing in particular to the table.

The game is over the Referee has blown the final whistle and the Penalty shoot out is to see who goes through, I can see why you and many many others would think you lose the game but, you don't, you lose the Penalty shoot out.
On the other hand, you lose the first leg 2-1, but win the 2nd leg 2-1; you then get knocked out on pens, have you won the game or lost the game. Of course, the answer is you won the game!
