Countdown.

It's looking a bit dated now. It's heyday was 20 (?) years ago, with Richard and pre surgery Carol. It's time it was retired.

I always preferred fifteen to one anyway, with William G Stewart.

What heracy!
This is the only programme that keeps my geriatric brain ticking over!

As Colin Murray asked on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, why is it called countdown and not count up?

They even went on to say that originally there were only 8 letters, so it’s just a coincidence that it has 9 letters.

Always nine in the UK version looking at the first episode broadcast, although the original version it was based on in France started with 7 and ended with 10. Unless he means it was going to be 8 but they changed it after piloting the format or something. BTW the French version has just finished after a 50+ year run over there.

And surely it’s a Countdown clock as I’ve never heard of a Countup clock.
