Clocks go back sunday october 27th (Europe)

I finish work at 5. I reckon that come tuesday evening (bank holiday over here on monday), if it's a clear evening,I'll have maybe half an hour of daylight.

It's the worst bit about winter, most will go to work when it's dark and come home when it's dark. Mentally that just isn't good for people.

I'm lucky that I work from home, so make sure I spend my dinner hour outside, exercising etc... whilst it's light.

I'd love for them to just trial having daylight later in the day during the worst parts of winter.

Agreed

Spot on. They should just leave it at BST all year round. As I said earlier in the thread, I see no benefit in changing the time now, then changing it back at the end of march.

It's a bit of excitement twice a year Jim.

We remain a largely agricultural country too so the farmers UIm sure appreciate the extra light at the end of the day rather than the start.

hmmm - doesn't it mean sunset is earlier??

Wouldn’t it be pitch black when the schools are kicking out at 3.30 if we didn’t change them?

Or is it the other way round? Can never quite get my head around which way it works.

Other way. But it would be darker on their way to school.

You'd have to go back 2 hours for that to happen

It was introduced as day light saving for to benefit agriculture so removing it would be detrimental I presume.

At present I suspect most kids get to travel to and from school in some sort of light in the middle of winter too.

No; he was right. Where, for example, it starts getting dark at 5pm today, it starts at 4pm tomorrow. But it gets bright earlier in the morning. But very few kids walk home now, and certainly not alone.

You might be surprised. Depends on the area obviously. But I have a child in Year 6 ( final year of juniors ) and I’d guess around 50% of her class make their own way to and from school. Even last year quite a few of them did.

But even in High School, when they virtually all go on their own, I wouldn’t like the idea of them coming out of school in darkness. Particularly the younger ones, 11 and 12.

Had this effing manflu all week so brain is scrambled - earlier when I parked my car I thought " get ahead of the game and adjust the clock for the next 6 months" - so I moved it forward an hour. Wife has just said " daft **** should be back an hour" so now I am 2 hours out when I go in the car tomorrow ............. brain is fucked

No "might" about it, I am surprised.
