The Labour Government

And what option would you have recommended? How much would that cost in subsidy compared to other options? Would you have said anything at all if the Tories had just let the whole scheme expire?
Why you throwing the Tories at me? I can quote you all fhe things I've said about the Tories if you like? Is your memory really this bad?

Anyhoo I would have increased the cap in line with inflation. This is not a scheme that costs billions and we were supposed to be improving the accessibility of public transport. Well that was what Labour have been saying forever.

You.dont appear to be Labour yourself anymore Vic. It's quite amusing you threw the Tories at me when you are miles closer to them than I am.

You're right, I'm always "making things up" about the price of bus tickets!

I was merely relaying what an expert in the industry was saying were the options once the present subsidy runs out. I'm sure you'll enlighten us on the correct state of affairs.
I suggest you listen to better experts, j mean it seems mad that you thought the only option was scrap or £3. Would £2.20 break the country? How about £2.80. Is there some law against Keir choosing another number?

No offence but its quite frightening how easily people are duped.

Or even making the subsided fare equal throughout the country £1.75 in London £2 in Manchester £3 elsewhere.

I'll assume you don't know that reimbursement to bus companies for having £2 fares is based on pre-Covid data. The average fare before the capped fare came in was £2.80. Given the increase in bus running costs (esp. wages), commercial average fares would now be well over £3 (and the taxpayers' subsidy would have to be going up to keep it at £2). The scheme is voluntary - so if bus companies don't feel it's worth it, it would die anyway (some never participated, some only did it because competitors on a route did).

The industry has been anxious about an exit strategy for a scheme originally intended to be for a few months.

What Thatcher did is absolutely relevant. Despite this increase in a capped fare, the principle is still the same. If you want taxpayer-subsidised public transport, it would be silly to vote Tory.
Thatcher is not relevant neither is it being a pre covid deal. This is the current Govt they can make whatever decisions they want withing the confines of the law

Things can be changed, a short term scheme dan be extended to whatever length of time they want it to. You are trying to deflect away from the decision by putting up false logic because you can't sell their decision.

That or you are very dim and believe any old shit a politician from your side tells you.

You really are a pedantic git. Whatever the amount of the ongoing subsidy has meant an increase to £3. Yes, they could have subsidised by more from taxation but they have settled for £3. I'm sure you can give us all the figures should they have decided on a different fare? No offence taken on being duped, after all we had 14 years of it!!

You don't know what pedantic means. A 50% increase in a bus fare when inflation has been around 2-3 % recently is a big hike. So if I say an inflation only rise would have been better and given reasons that isn't pedantry its a logical argument.

Saying well err but yeah they you know only had 2 option scrapping it or £3 and £3 only is stupidity.

I'm happy in the knowledge that my definition of stupidity is correct and you have used pedantry very stupidly.

Anyhow its budget day for the purples so its best we enjoy the calm before the storm.

I predict the quartet of cretins will pretend it was a very good budget indeed because :-

Tories
14 yrs
Black holes

I will give an honest assessment because we are strangers on a football forum and what we say doesn't change fuck all. I have nothing to sell or a side to protect. Some have a problem with that though such is the tribal nature of things.

Surely if people have to suffer the indignity of getting a bus the least we can do is make it as cheap as possible.

*just a joke*

I'm sorry for imagining you were a Tory. "Cretin" is the sort of language I expect from Tories.

Inflation has obviously been more than 3% since the £2 fare was increased.

Bus driver wages have gone up by more than 50%.

Where?

Deffo not here. I'm mates with their union reps. 2.1% and company pleasing poverty. They know their drivers can't afford to strike and many have fucked off to be trained as HGV driver instead.
