And this is the key. Many people are simply using their pension, on which they have received tax relief, to leave to future generations. The less well off don't do this because they actually use the pension to live on(what it's designed for) whilst those better off are able to hand it down to be put back into the economy, who knows when.
It would eventually go back into the economy in the form of VAT. I would rather my heirs pay VAT on (e.g) a car, than Starmer take it and fund a hotel for an asylum seeker.

Was she awared PiP unconditionally?
There are several conditions that you are assesseed only once for, I should know, I have one of those conditions

we were issued DS1500 ....with an estimated 12 weeks to live .... invited to a work capability assessment ... then took them a further 6 weeks to pay

Compassionate Conservatives eh?

Fine. But my point is, at which point is it reasonable to expect that money which is taken out of the economy, in this case as tax relief,to be put back in? In 20, 30, 40 years?

On your second point, general taxation including VAT already funds the immigration situation and I suspect there will be a continuing cost to future generations.

Thought about it. - typed it - then decided sod it - we ain’t going to agree - so why get into a war of words. Have a great day
Why would we not agree? I genuinely don't know what a surplus pension is and how it is determined to be surplus. I have a comfortable Personal pension from which we live off, and have done for 8 years. It "should" last us both out, but there is no way I would be blase about it and think there is a surplus with hopefully another 30 years or so for us both to live.

Alot of panic that the pound had crashed and the country was going into economic turmoil due to the budget... a day later and the pound and markets are relatively stable again. that will disappoint a few.

Won't unfortunately shut the fuckers up though !

Sorry to hear of your wife's condition, but my point was only that there are certain conditions whereby you re assessed only once for PiP, as opposed to regular repeat assessments

It's an interest rate / gilt yield story, not an exchange rate story.

The pound recovered against the dollar today because the US employment data were far worse than expected, which caused the spike in the chart you posted.

The impact on gilt yields and expectations around Bank Rate has persisted; this is the story given the risk of a persistently higher government borrowing costs, which require further tax increases and / or borrowing.

Markets were spooked around the globe, mostly due to the US goings on.

Reeves was always going to last longer than a lettuce, despite the hope of some political extremists.

All the news is full of is wailing business owners signalling that they would rather not pay their staff any more money. They are happy for other businesses to pay the extra as they want lots of wealthy customers to spend with them. The next bout of ranting will be when they can't retain staff so they now have increased recruitment and training costs. Maybe they could recruit from abroad - oh no wait ............... if only there was a pool of working aged people many of whom will have suitable skills sat around doing nothing just costing the country money ..................

And the latest group of whiners about the NI increase are GPs!
You couldn't make it up.
