Bournemouth (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Every dog has it's day, and Walker has had his. Great servant but he needs to be gone at the end of the season

Still confident of the league, but it's going to be a slog; a long fucking slog.

Camera panned to Walker in the warm up and he looked absolutely knackered (in the face).

Nowhere near fit, let alone match fit, but he’s dug in and helped as best he could imo, so he needs some leeway today imo.

Problem with McAtee is that when he gets a chance, he doesn’t grab it and say you can’t drop me now. His performance against Spurs was lacklustre and I thought he was outshone by O’Reilly.

For me, Nunes needs to move into the middle now to see if he can do it there and Doku can come back in.
Maybe if James got a run of games instead of sitting on the bench, could give Gundo a rest as well he certainly isn’t justifying his place in the team

"Games won" is not a stat sheet. You can use your eyes to go and look at the 18 trophies he's won here aswell if it helps.

Yep

He's won more than the whole history of Manchester City up to 2011

We are going to come up short and don't win anything that's football, The Foundation of this great club was built on not being glory hunters and fans wanting to turn up for the right reasons, Supporting your Club through thick and thin and in the good and bad times,

The monumental head loss with people claiming it's actually some huge underlying trend and we need to change everything every time we lose is getting a little embarrassing tbh. Sometimes you just lose.

Poor from all involved barring Ederson today.

Thin squad is visible to a blind man but we still had 11 internationals out there today who had more in them than they showed. I’ll give a lot of credit to Bournemouth who went forward whenever they could and took their chances.

We’ve been nursing ourselves through games and have got through them thankfully, but playing that way and trying to just do enough is going to see us come unstuck.

What it’s massively getting on my tits is our reluctance to shoot. I know the stats show that we sometimes have 20/30 shots in a match but we seem to pass opportunities to put a foot through it in favour of slowing it down and passing it sideways to someone who is marked by 3 men. Yes, I know today was our first loss but it really has been noticeable to me.

McAtee shouldn’t be at the club if he can’t get on the pitch in a game like today. If we’re going to run with a small squad we need players he trusts.

Anyway, let’s see what this week brings. Tough one on Wednesday and if we play this way again next Saturday Brighton will twat us.

Can't help but think we have talked ourselves into this defeat.

All fucking week all I've heard is injuries, fatigue, too many games etc etc
from Pep and the fans.

Fuck all should have been said, and anyone needed today should not have played last Wednesday!

I hope those idiots demanding a strong team at Spuds midweek are happy now!

I and most couldn't give a shit about losing that, today though means a lot more.
This

EDS midweek instead of a strong squad absolutely ridiculous to play that team the players needed a rest instead we picked up more injuries stupidity All this about not wanting to knock their confidence, if they had got hammered so what? They shouldn’t be professionals if that would knock them back

Been coming this. Rodri and KDB are such big misses, I was interested to see what Pep would come up with. Presumed it would be something creative, but Kovacic and Gundogan? I could have dreamt that one up.

yep, sporting away and brighton will be really tough games ,if we keep playing this way. Our defending needs to improve a lot.

Still think Bournemouth are a bang average side @jimharri ?
Yep.They weren't today, though. They'll finish mid table (at best) in my opinion. Which I'm guessing they'll be delighted with. That is the ultimate definition of average. In my opinion*. I see you want to drag up old posts. Fair enough; if that's the way you want to go, okay.

*other opinions are available.

This defeat has really shown how entitled some of our fanbase has become. I know Twitter is a cesspit at the best of times, but some of the posts I've seen from people who really should know better was eye opening.

There's plenty of City fans who remember the days where us losing twice in a week was a regular occurance, not major news.

We've had horrendous luck with injuries and we're attempting to retain the title for an unprecedented 5th time, having already won a historic 4 premier league titles in a row. The run won't go on forever, and hopefully this season won't be the one where it ends, but sadly the entitlement we see from the Red Cartel fans is on full display from plenty of City fans tonight.

A very poor showing but we have had plenty of similar peformances under Pep and did eventually manage to recover over the course of the season. The injuries aren't helping us especially with the latest being both Stones and Dias. I am not ready to throw in the towel.

You can’t expect young lads to come into the team and give a 9/10 for the odd game. They need to play every week. The same was said about Palmer, he got the odd 15 minutes on the left wing and people said he wasn’t taking his chance.

10 games in & we are in a decent position, particularly given the injuries and lack of rhythm which that creates.

The next two champs league games are important - get a safe platform so we can pace ourselves over Xmas and January period when hopefully our rivals will be flogging themselves with extra fixtures.

Bournemouth are a well coached team, no shame in the loss today, particularly as they had a week to solely prepare for us.

And I think the fixture list will be the key thing for all the teams at the top. Liverpool played Brighton who had also played mid-week - may have been different if Brighton had a full week to prepare, as they have with us next week. It’ll be another tough fixture.

Get this next international fixture out of the way, get all bar Bobb/Rodri back and we can then feel the rhythm till Spring.

Isn't this result the reason why it's considered one of the most competitive leagues? Anyone can beat anyone else on a given day.

Agree with that bit but Pep isn’t going to do that. He just doesn’t trust them enough. It took 3 seasons of dribs and drabs for Foden to get in the side and he was quality. I’m not sure why we have kept McAtee as Pep shows no signs of playing him regularly.

Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "They had chances, we created as well at the end too, but we could not win any balls from the wingers.

"They were difficult to play in the first half. We knew how they would play. It was well-deserved. The guys give everything because after nine years together they always will."

On whether players were playing with injuries: "Kyle [Walker], 16 days didn't train with us until yesterday. Nathan [Ake] made an incredible effort, it's not just about that [injuries]."

On how proud he is to have gone almost a year without losing in the Premier League: "We would like to keep defending it but how many games and months we did it... it's great.

"We have another game in two days in Portugal and we have to go again."

Midfield is the major problem, Rodri held that midfield together. Without him there it’s slow and lethargic easy to get past. No energy Gundo he got an assist but he’s not the old Gundo we know, age is showing.

Recruitment for midfield has been disappointing. Kalvin , Nunes , Kova. We lack creativity and energy.

Best striker in the world up front but without Kev no creativity to find him consistently.

If we can sort midfield we walk the league.
