Bournemouth (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It felt as though Pep was sending a message by not making changes. Really bizarre to watch that for so long and not look to change things.

Awful performance until time was running out, that's the intensity we should be playing with from the first whistle.

We are in huge trouble. I said before the game it felt like the run we had when Rodri was suspended where we lost a few in a row. That's back to back losses now and whilst we dont have to be at Sporting, Brighton away is a must win game.

Arsenal dropping points means today doesn't feel so bad, but the nature of the display means it still stings. The dippers come back was a blow too.

We aren't going to be as good without key players, but we need to be miles better than we are.

That result was coming. We've been scratching out wins all season. No surprised today that we gave ourselves to much to do although we could have scraped a point through Haaland or Foden.

Piss poor summer. Players on the bench who have little chance of playing (McAtee). Baffling.

Disappointing afternoon, not just the result but the performance too. Bournemouth were better all over the pitch, stronger, faster and more creative. They looked like a team we looked slow and ponderous, a tired and slightly ageing team.
The midfield is a huge problem at the moment, we are relying on Haaland and defenders to score. Not sure how Pep is going to change this. We are paying the price for not strengthening over the last couple of windows.
We looked a lot better when Lewis and Doku came on but it was all a little too late by that point. If they had better finishing, or without Eddie it could have been an embarrassing scoeline.

The Rodri injury has exposed the age of the midfield and lack of physicality/legs we have in there. Gundo was probably brought in to play certain games and come off the bench to control games but he's playing alot more than we probably expected him too. Kovacic is a good tidy player but he's not a physical player. Add to that KDB can't get fit and we're just completely exposed in midfield without Rodri there. It's causing us countless problems when teams transition on us and it's why we can't keep clean sheets. This result has been coming for weeks.

Kyle Walker is absolutely finished aswell. He is done. How many times are teams just getting last him now?

We have to buy a younger, energetic, physical midfielder who can play alongside Rodri next year but gives us some legs this year, otherwise we will struggle to win the league again, despite Pep's genius.

On the plus side we improved fairly significantly once Rico and Doku came on, it was just too late at that point. We need a few back and we need to change that midfield for Brighton otherwise they will cause us loads of problems.

Can't help but think we have talked ourselves into this defeat.

All fucking week all I've heard is injuries, fatigue, too many games etc etc
from Pep and the fans.

Fuck all should have been said, and anyone needed today should have played last Wednesday!

I hope those idiots demanding a strong team at Spuds midweek are happy now!

I and most couldn't give a shit about losing that, today though means a lot more.
What you want to say is that anyone needed today should NOT have played on Wednesday. But Pep is between a rock and a hard place wrt injuries. I think that he made Walker play today. Lewis has played a lot of games. He will be needed in the CL game. A lot of players out there today have niggles. Easy to spot. You just cannot bring on youngsters at Bournemouth and run a risk of destroying their spirit. We've got to get through these next 2 games starting with CL on Tuesday.

Bournemouth were excellent
Yes, but we contributed to their excellence. Too ponderous in midfield, too slow to react when we lost possession, too laboured in our build ups giving them time to get settled in defence. Hardly created anything until last 10.

Rubbish but one of those pre Christmas City displays that has us all saying it’s a season too far…

So much football to play yet, hopefully injuries start to clear up soon.
