I Know It’s Over

Once again, we said exactly the same last season. Mahrez and Gundogan leaving apparently cost us 25-30 goals, Alvarez playing in midfield was costing us creativity and stopping him from scoring goals. I didn't notice those 30 goals missing when we lifted the title in May.

Look at this tweet from this exact day last season.

Haaland on 15 goals, Alvarez on 7, everyone else on 5 goals or fewer. 42 goals overall.

And here are our scorers this week.

Haaland on 15 again (after Brighton), everyone else on 3 goals or fewer. 35 goals overall.

It's easy to point at that second tweet and say Alvarez is obviously the missing piece, but bear in mind that Walker, Dias, Stones, Akanji, Bobb, Ake, Grealish, Doku, De Bruyne, and Rodri have all missed quite a few games already this season and would have made up the difference. The injuries have absolutely killed us in recent games.

Obviously there's nothing we can do about Rodri, but with De Bruyne, Doku, and eventually Bobb back in our attacking line-up (plus Echeverri) things will get better from January onwards. You imagine Savinho will pitch in more once he breaks his duck. And that's if we don't sign an attacker in January, which we might.

Not all is lost!

I'd love to have your optimism, but as @burning blue soul has said, it does feel very different this time
Last season I said it would take KDB until March/ April to recover any sort of fitness and form and I'm happy to say I was wrong
Here we are again with him with another injury and hoping that he can do it all again, but he's another year older (I wonder if he'll turn out for Belgium in a couple of weeks!)
Even if he does, we're still missing Rodri and all that he brings
Bobb is coming back from a broken.leg, so there's no guarantee he will deliver anything at all this season
Doku is hot and cold and still very raw
Grealish offers control, but very few goals and assists

It really all comes back to what we can squeeze out of the ageing and more injury prone KDB

As I said in today's post match thread, top four will be an achievement this season and it wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea snuck the league

The difference between the last few seasons and this one at the same stage is that in previous seasons we were unlucky in some games and we didn't deserve to drop points. This season we are the lucky ones to come out with points.

Even the happiest of happiest clappers can't defend this season.

We.have been utterly poor since the first game. We have played well for about 90 minutes the whole of the games this season combined.

From what we have witnessed this season, no way this squad puts a run of 8/9/10 games winning run together.

The dippers are relentless and we look shot to pieces.

Huge changes needed for me. Use the rest of this season as a rebuild exercise.

It’s only 1 season. Changes will be made to rectify the situation.

Pep and the board must know the problems. Mainly that a lot of our players ain’t good enough anymore. It’s sad to say but a reality with age and winning so much.

We look second best all over the pitch. No drive or athleticism. Opened up time and time again.

The unprecedented success has its pitfalls.

I’m done slagging anyone off, cool heads needed to make the best decisions for the club.

We all need to stick together. The coach and players have given us the most amazing memories. The fall off should have happened last season but the stubborn shits wouldn’t let up well now it is happening.

Let’s hope we can try and get a settled team back on the pitch after the break.

It’s been an absolute pleasure. Thanks city and good night.

Well.. somehow I'm more calm now since we managed to round our PL titles to 10.
9 titles weren't looking for me as solid, as it looks now (like we needed those 100 points, even though 97 points were good enough) and we also managed to crack that Arsenal team, by beating them twice in the race.

Plus we have CL, Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup and in overall, we have successfully managed to grab enough titles to be satisfied and relaxed. God knows, when we will have 20PL and 2CL titles, but so far we are very very successful.

This season, if Rodri wasn't injured, before that Inter game and after we signed Gundogan, I had a feeling that we would win this year very easily. Since the start was promising and we started without Rodri and with Rodri I was thinking about Real Madrid as our only opponent worthy to worry about. But it's what it's.

Now what worries me is that 115 charges case and can't relax till outcome is known.

If we win 115 charges, I think it's OK to use this season and have a clear picture for the future: who needs to go, who needs to stay, who we have to buy, etc.

One thing is certain, if we don’t get our big players back and very quickly, we are going to drop down faster than Martin Edward’s at a Mottram Hall toilet cubicle door

Not even worried…..

Chill out, I can’t remember the amount of times we’ve been written off only to be told our league win was inevitable.

So I’m making this prediction we’ll scramble enough points to stay in contention then hit form in the New Year to take the lot.

Up the fucking blues !!!
I like the optimism, but we could well be 9 to 11 points behind the dippers after the game against them in early December which I fear will be too much to claw back.

Really can't see us beating spurs and them given the performances of the last two months and how easy we are to play through at the moment, we're shipping goals for fun and there's no pragmatism defensively. If not for Ederson we could have been on the wrong end of some truly humiliating scoreline defeats in the last week.

The end of an an incredible era but no reason why we won't bounce back.

Still a club full of huge talent and massive resources to rebuild.

The big issue is Pep, this rebuilt will take at least 3 windows to do, does he want to be around that long?

But as we have witnessed over the last 9 seasons and even in that first 45 minutes against Brighton, Pep is an incredible coach, to produce that first half with that eleven was incredible.

I simply don't see any sensible and top class replacement at this time, so at least another year of Pep has to be the solution and rebuilding this team may take away any doubt he has of moving on.
