Made sense to bring him on and it’s a great pity what happened as such collapses are particularly harmful for young players. It’s one of the reasons Guardiola is so careful about bleeding them. He knows that these can lead to fan overreactions that set them back. If in doubt, check out these pages.

I'm not blaming the kid but he's not good enough. I said before we have a better player out on loan (Callum Doyle).

At 3-0 I was concerned when he came on. Teams target players and they will have known he was there for the taking.
Gimenez was thrown on straight away.

Basically his introduction made the defence jittery. Gundogan absence didn't help either.

He's Boyata mk II imo. Sorry. Probably a talented lad but looks utterly shell shocked when he's put under any pressure.

Everyone's blaming Gvardiol for Feyenoord's first goal but Simpson-Pusey pointlessly gave him a 50/50 to deal with. He should have just headed or booted the ball up the pitch and eased the pressure. Instead he headed a bouncing ball to Gvardiol who had two players bearing down on him. What else could he really do with it?

For their second goal he's just nowhere to be seen. Watches the ball sail over his head to Gvardiol who's knackered and outnumbered at the back post, then doesn't get back in to challenge the forward on the line. From that point the collapse has already set in and there's nobody on the pitch to restore a bit of order and calm.

But regardless, any loss of confidence will partly be on Pep. Pusey shouldn't have been put out there with the team in its current state. If Dias couldn't play for 15 minutes then why was he on the bench? In that case, why didn't Pep leave things as they were, like he does whenever we're losing games? The balance completely left the side.

As soon as I saw Pusey was coming on my heart sank. But that's not really on Simpson-Pusey, he's just a kid. With that said, a nervy kid coming into a team that badly needed a win was the total opposite of what was required and all he's done is set himself up for another nervy performance, if he ever pulls on a City shirt again.

Like I said, this already has shades of Boyata, who was a talented defender but was a deer in the headlights whenever things got a little bit ropey. That red card against Arsenal was the end of him and I hope tonight doesn't have the same effect on Pusey's trajectory - but sadly it looks likely after yet another uncertain performance in Europe.

I think he has talent but if he is to play I would much prefer to see him in at RB than CB at the moment.

Spot on. It's not like he's come from playing in the championship.
McAtee has played in PL and he's struggled so what hope has a young lad with no experience.

I'm sorry but... just... what the fuck is Pusey doing here? He can clearly see two Feyenoord lads running towards Gvardiol, who is also off balance, but he decides to just head it to him anyway, and on the bounce? An absolutely terrible decision that completely changed the complexion of the game.

McAtee is right there - he even looks at him but still decides not to play it safely for some reason.

It's actually given me a bit of confidence going into the next few games that the Feyenoord comeback was started by a frankly suicidal individual error, made by someone who won't get near the Anfield pitch. Gvardiol was at fault for the second goal - hopefully Dias can start and give Gvardiol a much needed rest.

The only way is up but I am not sure he will be at City in the long term. Unlike the other two experienced defenders and keeper, I'll cut him some slack.

Eeek. Not going to dig the lad out but yeah it's clear he's involved out of neccesity rather than on merit. He properly fucked over Gvardiol with that header into him which forced his error for their first.

Not his fault we decided 6 senior defenders was enough, 2 of which are made from fragile glass when everybody else typically has 8-9 defenders in a squad and on top of that, we sold and loaned out our 2 best defensive academy products too.

Comes on at 70 mins, 3 conceded thereafter … WTF were we thinking of getting rid of Harwood-Bellis.

Horrendous v Lincoln City in the Trophy too btw, for those that never saw the 0-5 thrashing.
Well it is not fair to compare him to Harwood-Bellis. Harwood-Bellis had been cast out long before this young lad came up with age group. Pep preferred Eric Garcia to Harwood Bellis at that time and Harwood Bellis had to find himself a place to play professional football. So...

Issue is. He’s low down in a long list of centre halves we have. They’re just all injured.

I personally like him. Has a lot of good attributes and if him looking nervous under pressure - when he’s so young and barely had senior game time - is the main slight against him, that’s fine by me.

But that header to Gvardiol last night was ridiculous.

We shouldn't be playing these academy players. It's not their fault they are not at the required level, but when they play with the seniors, that's the standard. He is not going to make it with us, but he will have a decent PL career.

19 year old kid with 3 senior games under his belt makes error shocker.

The lad might be the best centre back in the world in a decade, or he might be playing for Port Vale.

His career won’t be defined by last night.
Pfft. This is neither the time nor place for cool-headed logic. Bluemoon Commodus has deliberated and decided.
