Sorry Ray but I disagree with your first assertion regarding players reluctance to sign for us.

There will be many players who will have watched the success and the way the club is run over a sustained period, and recognise the opportunity to be part of a highly successful club.

Our current malaise will not be ongoing for the long term future, especially if we can get players approaching something like full fitness.

We are nothing like the road accident existing at the rags for example and the solutions to our problems are much more achievable if money is made available for the incoming transfer window.

I suppose that last bit is a big "if". Assuming it is available in January, how are you thinking it should be spent? My gut feel is that we bring in one, although I feel we need two.
 
The only established players that are out of contract are Gundogan and de Bruyne, I think. It may be very difficult to shift any of Walker, Stones, Ake, unless we do something to sweeten the deal.

I would hope we sign a player for the Rodri role, and a central defender.

I fear that Stones despite being a great defender just cannot stay fit enough to be relied upon long term.

But whatever happens I have faith in the club - despite the doom and gloom surrounding this forum and posters.
 
There’s simply not enough goals in the squad and the midfield is seriously lacking energy.

I’d get ride of:
KDB
Walker
Stones
Grealish (or Doku)
Gundogan
Mcatee

Replace them with:
Wirtz
Rodrygo
Sudakov
Frimpong
New CB
Bring Doyle in from Norwich

That’s also with the idea we have done business in Jan.

Possibly a touch of football manager about it but I feel that’s what inactivity/poor decisions in the last few years has led too. All of them players mentioned are realistic options too. Pace, youthfulness, energy, creativity and most of all goals.

Yes a CB to cover injuries and Akanji can play the RB/RCB role as well. Can rotate Lewis or play him more in Midfield with another defender joining.

Who would be attainable though?

We've been like to Lukeba a lot.
I'd like to see us look at Dioamande. We did have scouts at the Sporting game last night and the obvious link due to Viana joining.

Cdm needed as well. Ricci, Zubimendi and Ederson all heavily linked.

Cant see much more. Maybe McAtee gets a move as Nunes is proving a good addition and Bobb to be back in the new year.

Seriously? No half decent player would want to work under Pep for the currently most successful club in England over the past 8 seasons? Nonsense. Chelsea have had no issue buying the players they want despite being wildly unsuccessful in recent seasons.

Buying in January is tricky but Zubimendi has a release clause and Ederson plays for Atalanta who have had big departures. Yes there may be issues bedding then in but Haaland, Gvardiol, Savinho, Doku and Akanji have had to slot in with varying degrees of success.

The core of our squad isn't that bad, if anything you can say the real problem is not enough players in the 24-28 age range, were either playing 22 or under or they're +30

Sorry I do not know enough about players in other leagues to offer suggestions, but I expect the club to be aware of players who fit the bill and their availability.

Despite the opinions of the BM experts, I trust the club in matters of recruitment.


Awaits the responses - what about Phillips etc etc etc

I remember us being in a very similar situation around Pellegrini's last year. I think we had four outfield players in the 24-29 age range - Otamendi, Mangala, Aguero, De Bruyne. The rest were either too young or 29+. We were able to sort it out in the space of two summers, so we should not despair.

Players won't want to join us because of our current situation being 2nd in the league?

6 games without a win and some have lost their heads!
 
Go get one maybe two midfielders in January right now any young midfielder that looks a good prospect would improve the team. We need legs and youth in the middle. Midfield is where we are getting over run and played through

Get Ederson/Zubimendi and Sudakov that’s two midfielders there that would improve us. Ederson great ball winner as well as a goal threat would be my choice.

Then get the other priorities done in the summer.

Exactly, this team didn't just get rubbish overnight

Need top 4, if we lose to Liverpool that should he the aim and I'm confident we get it

Will need to attack the summer market aggressively though
 
Id be very surprised if we sign anyone in Jan. Unless the charges case is done and dusted, I just don't think the club will make a move.

Whilst I want to believe the confidence that seemingly Pep has and I want to trust Tolmie is hearing news in good faith. It's not done until it's done.
