Would be an amazing signing, just the quality and personality we are in desperate need of.
He definitely has the X factor. And I'd imagine Haaland would love playing alongside him.

Bobb, Doku, Savio and him.

So Pep would move from wanting 10 midfielders in his team to .....

I don’t think the club think that at all and had reasons for trying to hang on until next summer, but I’m fairly sure they would rather wait for the right players in the summer when it’s easier to move players out as well, if needs be. They will do what they can in January, I just think they will be limited by whats possible though.
Even if they did think that, though, there was no way that such an ageing/injury-susceptible squad could be rebuilt in one summer, not even two, so doing so little business last summer was only allowing the problem to grow. The richer pickings will come in the summer, I agree, but we need bodies now that will help keep us in contention so that we'll still be able to attract those main targets then.

I think we only need 3 or 4 out and in,so if we get 1 in January then 2 or 3 in summer we will be fine for next season. Then the summer after maybe another 2.
It is possible a couple we don’t want or need to move on will want to, thinking Ederson and Bernardo which may complicate things a bit, but nothing we can’t deal with.

An amazing stat that over 50% of the minutes played by City are by players 29 years and older. That's double Arsenal.
Chelsea meanwhile 0%

Injuries skew the data. For example, Rodri and Foden would usually play every game - both have been missing, and both are under 29. Bobb would have been playing - 20.

Of course but it suggests that Spurs and Chelsea have very youthful squads and we don't.

And that when we have injuries we don't play many youngsters.

Not really I saw a thing that said we had plenty of younger players comparable with most teams and a few over 30s but what the squad actually lacks are those in the 26 / 29 range.

True. Players with a year left on their contracts will be impossible to shift in the summer. Tad awkward lauding two-way loyalty and then hoping those same loyal players will walk early for our benefit.

I still think the squad could be strengthened in this window with a couple of solid defensive players, who were both experienced and physically dependable. The harder task will come in the summer when we try to find the much needed midfield creativity .

In the last year or so the midfielders where there seemed to be some concrete interest were Paqueta, Guimares and Wharton.

Newcastle think that some cryptic clues posted by their midfielder means he is leaving.

Would he be a good signing in January?

The average age of the squad is 26.8 years. Plenty of youngsters like Doku, Bobb, Savinho, Lewis. Phil and Erling both 24. Rodri and Jack both in their twenties, as is Dias. BUT, we do have key players well into their thirties and they will need replacing, no matter their achievements and importance.

Personally I'd love Guimaraes in Jan. He'd add some character and bite to our midfield, as well as genuine leadership qualities and ability.

And Doku and Savio are nowhere near that stage where they start thinking they are too good for City or want to go home to mum , or move back to BM in order to secure their place in the national team
( allegedly )
Give both time both have showed signs they can cut it under Pep. Sane wouldn't be the answer either.

Savio has had really promising season at Girona and has shown signs at City he is a useful player to have ignore his currnet stats at the minute.

The window is likely to cost a lot of money, but we've won a couple of net spend trophies so it's time to go the other way again
Agree with that. Time to have a negative net spend again and address some of the issues that are long overdue. Won’t get as much in sales as this summer, and KDB (and Gundo) leaving on a free is a bit of a shame, especially as the former would probably go for somewhere between 30-60m if Saudi wanted him

Could see Walker, Bernardo, Stones, McAtee, Kabore, Wilson-Esbrand, Phillips and Perrone all leaving, would hopefully be closer to 100m? Not a big fan of Stones going, but he’s more often injured than fit and available. Can’t rely on him anymore, especially as Pep wants a smaller squad

Think we are stuck with Phillips, Stones, and Walked until their contracts run out. As for wanting a tiny squad, we have to be realistic. If we go into next season with the same size squad but different players, we are going to struggle again. We need to use the academy more and rotate in league cup games, easier opposition in the fa cup and champions league. Pep can't keep complaining about players playing too much and asking for more subs to then not use the subs and never resting certain players.

We won't do that in one transfer window. The most transfers we did in one summer is 5 in recent times.

I'd give Stones and Bernardo another season personally. The rest I can see happening along with maybe also cashing in on Ederson if rumours are anything to go by. How many do you see coming in?
High priority for me:

Right back
Midfield x2 (one in Jan)
KDB replacement
Back up striker/versatile forward player

Lower priority:

Back up keeper - If Eddy goes
Left back - allow Gvardiol to play CB

Agree . How do the fuck does a team of our stature have to rely on putting Scott Carson on he subs bench because our squad is so small now that is a problem . We used have a battle getting players on the bench because our squad was that good but now we can’t even fill the first 11 with players in the right position I mean when you look at it from where we where to now it’s a massive drop of and if it was in the business someone’s head would be rolling .
