Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Manchester is almost 2,000 miles closer to New York than Buenos Aires.

The only grounds that are closer to the South American clubs than the Europeans are the Florida ones, and possibly Atlanta if you are Saltzberg to the east.

There is a large Argentina community in Miami, it’s one of the reasons Messi went there and Aguero has a home there too

In 1994 (or 1993 when the ticketing was done) it was highly implied Ireland would get a game or games in Boston due to historical ties, and it didn't happen. That was before team specific tickets so a lot were bought for games they didn't want in advance.

IT will be interesting to see who plays where, and it will have a bigger impact on fans going. If you get in Seattle's group you know you are playing 1 game there at least, and maybe big journeys for the other 2 group games.

I think Ireland drawing Italy meant that they felt they had to play the game in New York. Ireland fans made up about 90% of the crowd that day. Can't believe it's more than 30 years ago. John Aldridge was a despicable bastard even back then.

You'd hope common sense would prevail in that the rest of the games in Seattle's group would be played in Los Angeles.

I watched a programme about that game recently. Apparently, all the locals of Italian heritage who had tickets were happy to sell them to Irish fans that traveled over for the game. The Irish packed the stadium. The Italian Americans stayed home and watched on television with some extra money in their pocket.

Not seen it stated but I would imagine if we play in Seattle's group, all our group games will be in Seattle or California. Similar if we are in Miami's group, I'd expect no game to be further north than Orlando, or Atlanta at a push.
