Support Pep

This run is going to light a fire under the arse of Pep and the club. He knows how supported he is, he'll know better than anyone what needs doing in the summer post-115, and he'll get it imo. Two year rebuild will set us up for another half decade of success. All things considered it's probably not the worst thing to happen to us at this point in the project. We are very, very, very lucky to have him.

Hope it lights a fire under the arse of some of the players as well if possible. Still plenty to go for this season.

We've got a lot of injuries, Pep knows what to do, it's down to the players he has to implement it and for me there is simply no guile of desire there at the moment. Only they will know the reason why; some care, others are just going through the motions.
"Going through the motions"......Who ??

Imo, i think some of them are still only partialy fit and are physicly and mentally fatigued from 5 years of non stop trophy winning.

This maybe the first time many of them have experienced a streak like this and it may have shattered them.

The experienced leaders are not on the pitch to help the less experienced players, or if they are they are half fit, and unable therefore to lead by example as normal.

This perfect, unexpected, storm appears to have blown everyone away including to some extent Pep.

The ship needs steadying but we need everyone back fully fit and in good mental condition.

A win, and a decent performance, against Notts will be a valuable start but they will need great support from the fans.

We need a loud and intense atmosphere from 1 till 95 along with patience because it wont be easy or pretty.

A cup tie atmosphere will be need to drive thevteam over the line.

Do your duty.

Top post that fella…

I agree - he criticised us for booing the Champs League anthem - he didn't know what happened to our fans in Russia - then he realised we were honourable principled fans and he bought into us 100%

Pep was Barca through and through. For Barca the CL is everything because Real have that over them. The pressure is huge, the intensity high and they're a big club with a prestigious history. Then he went to Bayern, same story.

Then he came to City and initially he probably thought the fans needed a kick up the arse so our mentality was like that of his former clubs. He didn't know what life was like in England or for us as a club. He didn't understand that everything was set up for the history boys to profit and the new kid to suffer.

But then it clicked and he understood. That's a huge reason why he has stayed as long as he has, why he fell in love with the club and our fans and why he is the best man to be at the club right now and for as long as possible in the future.

Like the hardcore fan, win or lose he will stick by the club and the players and whether we are in CL finals or playing York away, he will be here trying to win games.

To say Pep has credit in the bank is putting it mild. More like he owns the fucking bank.

At first, I thought he didn't 'get' us. Now he does. He gets us in spades. I love the fact that he doesn't give a shit.

Would that cause any problem with associated party transactions?

Will always support him. He’s been the best thing to happen to this club. He’ll go down as the game’s greatest ever manager when he pulls down the curtain on his career.

He’s a stubborn bastard though and I’d have loved him to change the tactics employed of late but who am I?

If he’s adamant (queue gifs) that this is the way we’re playing then that’s that.

Needs to be a noisy one on Wednesday.

I don't know why this is even a thread, there hasn't and won't be anything other than full support for Pep and the team on the terraces. He's the primary cause of this capitulation and criticism is warranted but that won't come from fans in the grounds.

How the fuck is he the primary cause ? We have had a whole first team out injured at the same time , lost the world and our most important player , kev out for several months and players playing with injuries and trying to get them match fit

Pep knows we’ve got his back, the only people unduly criticising and taking the piss out of him
For his passion are keyboard warriors, tourists
& WUMS.. He’s the best there has ever been, changed football forever for the better and won us a shed load of trophies ….
Criticizing Pep is not evidence of not having his back. Nobody wants him gone. And he is eternally loved.

But we recognize his genius and need him to tap in and fix things. In my opinion, some of the problem is a talent issue. But lots of it isn't. And Pep ought to attempt to fix it.

Ability to break a press: Has degraded significantly. We don't have passing patterns designed to do this anymore. We have players getting the ball then guessing where to play it. This is mostly a structure and pattern issue. Pep should fix it.

Ability to make team's pay for pressing: Teams used to press us less a few years ago ( even after our ability to break presses had begun to erode) because once we successfully broke an aggressive pressure our "press break counter attacks," were deadly. So the risk of pressing is far outweighed the potential rewards. Nowadays even after we break a press we mostly just resort to a turgid middle of the field slow pass around that sometimes resulted in returning it back to defenders to get put under a press again.

So the risk of pressing is is now non-existent as we don't carry a scary counter attack anymore. Slow midfielders with excessive touches plus defensive players with risk adverse touches causes this. This too is part talent and part structure. Pep can fix the structure part.

Our Press: the part of our game that has regressed the most. Our press when the other team plays out of the back. This is the most painful part of our regression.

1) more teams pass out of the back now, even bottom table teams. Their Managers are all Pep-ites. So they demand it even from poor ball playing defenders. Yet our press is now so weak and so disorganized that we often fail to muster the most basic of pressure against most teams.

Liverpool over the weekend made 3 errors passing out of the back but we were so disjointed and half asses in our press that no one was even close to the ball to capitalize on the missed passes.

Lots of the problem here is Haaland. Who has an aversion to team pressing concepts. And always half-ass his press. Always starts late, and never finishes the press loop aggressively. Then Phil sees him and just doesn't bother to pickup the 2nd man and for some reason our CMs simply sit at the hallway line with the CBs a d never step into the space and close the free man or our Fullback close the man on the line.

This press failure problem, is all Pep ( or whoever his assistant is that used to teach this) and if that's one of the guys who has left, he needs to hire another guy to do it. This flaccid press is the biggest decline in our play from years ago. It is worse than non-existent.

And this is all down to Pep. Philosophically, you are supposed to cut the field in half, force the first plant on the ball ( often the goalie and sometimes a defender) to only have options to one direction of the field, then as soon as he passes to that area, flood the area with multiple players defending each option on that side of the field, plus one extra. Then the original press player (often Haaland) must make sure the ball cannot be passed back to the original passer ( often the goalkeeper) as an outlet to restart..

We used to do this instinctively and often. Now everyone acts like it's a foreign concept and each player just half ass presses their guy and then stops when he passes it before they get to him. And the next guy waits till his guy has received the ball before approaching. This is all tactically wrong. And I can't believe it's happening under a Pep managed team.

Pep MUST fix this or we won't compete. No matter who we get in the Winter or next summer.

In fairness I did say unduly criticising him.. I agree with most of your points and I’ve criticised him to the dog when mrs death isn’t listening… Some of the shit he’s getting isn’t warranted and the players need to step up and carry out his strategy/game plans … We’ve fallen off a cliff recently but I’m sure he will get us back on track …

We had a whole first team out for one game. We were missing less players than our opponents when spurs smacked us at home, a spurs that got beat by ipswich and drew to fulham either side of that
Dippers had similar number of players unavailable as us Last weekend Injuries have been a factor but they've somewhat masked the fundamental problems we've had all season. if anybody still thinks this is purely due to injuries they've either not been watching or they've gone full dipper in the delusion scale. Even when we had a good start to the season the signs were there for some of us of this happening, it's his tactical setups that are costing us, therefore he's the primary cause.
