Homophobia in football

Why should they or anyone have to 'come out'? Seriously, why can't everyone just live their lives without having to tell the world and it's dog where they like to stick their dicks (or the female equivalent of) to get off?

As long as its legal who cares??
Exactly! As long as it’s legal , it’s no one else’s business what you do in your private life!

Who cares… nosey cunts, that’s who cares!

Aside from the odd pics with other halves the only players in our squad in recent times that have been particularly public and 'out' with their sexuality have been Kyle and Mendi. Sometimes discretion is best.

So they should continue living in the closet is what you are suggesting?

If a city player came out as gay, how would they affect your support of them?

I'm hoping the answer is it wouldn't so therefore, why do you care?

If you read his previous comments it’s abundantly clear that you’ve misunderstood where this poster is coming from.

I mean literally on the last page he talks about how important it is to support LGBT initiatives because it’s still a sport where not a single gay player feels comfortable being open about their sexuality.

FWIW we know from the few players that have come out, and the PFA, that there are quite a few gay footballers in the league right now who choose to keep it private.

I think any player who decided to out a fellow professional would be met with so much disdain and animosity that even the tabloids would be weary of touching it. A active player would get blacklisted, no club would want to deal with the fan backlash from signing such a piece of shit (and there really is no other description for someone who sells that story).

The Sun or whatever rag ran the story would find their entire sports desk completely ostracised, I think if it happened today in 2024 they’d be banned from every PL ground and press conferences by the next match day. It’d definitely land them in front of a parliamentary select committee and there’d be a big debate about criminalising such stories which is already the case in other countries.

I believe there are gay footballers in the league who have chosen to keep it quiet & that isn’t a sign of homophobia in fact you provide evidence that the game supports their right. My response about ex player coining it in would be an player after their career if there really was 4% or 500 as quoted to me at least 1 would go in the jungle, sell the tabloid story.

Religious bigots care, some supporters care, homophobes care, homeosexual people in that community care, some Premier League clubs or management will care, the media care, even sponsors would care.

The act of ‘coming out’ or ‘being in the closet’, isn’t as straight forward as ‘just live your life’ in football, clearly. If a homosexual Premier League footballer lived their daily life as a heterosexual footballer does, imagine how they’d be treated around the sport, league and media.

Just because you don’t care, or I don’t care, or a good amount of forward or decent thinking folk don’t care, they’d be subject to treatment that heterosexual footballers wouldn’t in the same mannner.

No top elite footballer is going to come out, it would cost him a fortune in loss of endorsements etc, regardless of the difficult headlines and media attention.

Someone I know well and trust that works high up in football told be about a ex rag player who was gay, he went on to become one of the most famous players in the game, got "married" and "had kids" but it was all a business arrangement as he had enormous endorsements of tens of millions a season. Still in the game and still has the pretending lifestyle.

It’s not Denis Law: he’s bisexual. Played for City and United.

Serious question, though. Would that have been the loss of UK endorsements or global endorsements? Makes a difference probably as there are many countries less liberal than the UK.

I am not sure, the same issue applies to music and entertainment people, apparently it is not good in terms of $$$$$

I suppose it varies by country. In the US I can imagine it's a problem. And Africa and any other socially underdeveloped country :)

On the other hand, in Thailand it's almost a given that entertainers are homosexual one way or the other and in Korea a musician's sexual identities are "manufactured" to appeal to various demographics.

Surprised if it's much of an issue in the UK, though .....

Anyway, back to football :)

“Homosexual one way or the other.” I’m fairly certain there’s just the one way.
