Crystal Palace (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Don't see it we battled hard yesterday just look at the km we ran! Problem is players not 100.% pro managing a squad with 3 games a week who have been out for long still have injuries or worried about getting a worse injury! Why Grealish Doku didn't start! Just think pep started them and because they it 100% get injured out for a month!

We have to suck it up because if not going to get any better anytime soon
People who think this is like managing a team on Fifa need to remember what happens on Fifa when all your players are in the red.

The mark of a top team is how they do when things aren't going their way.
Yesterday was always gonna be a tough one and with a half fit team it could've ended a lot worse than it did. That was down to the battling qualities and mentality of all the players.
It ain't pretty and pisses off the glory hunting internet 'fans' but that is football sometimes.

Making the argument for bedding in more of the squad & youth players rather than running the same players into the ground.

Some right soft tacklers in this side right now. Too many hoping to nick a 1st/2nd ball over winning the 1st/2nd ball.

I think your post slides down the gutter the more you scribbled out that shite. Think on . . . .
Which bits are shite? I take it you think our players look 100 per cent fit? You don't think we are getting beaten by pace in midfield? Why is it we are losing so many games then dickhead - are we just unlucky and eventually our luck will turn? Do you think we will win the title with Nunes, Gungogan, Walker and Lewis in the form they are in?

Some people know fuck all about football and you're one of them you bell end.

We need to arrange a friendly against Cheadle Town midweek for a 10 nil win to get everyone's morale back in the green. Works in a bad run on football manager anyway.

Savinho will be fine - just a bit of advice for him, get your shots on target, I don't care if the keeper saves them, just get them on target.

Considering the team we fielded and how the game panned out it was a positive point. We are sadly rolling out players who are either average at best, or unfortunately past their best and it shows.

But for Ruben Dias yesterday holding it together at the back we'd have conceded at least 4. Savinho and Nunes belong in Everton's team, not ours. Neither will ever be good enough.

We showed some grit, saw out the game when we went down to 10 and the lads certainly grafted. The problem is the top level ability is missing. As for Ricos red card - the nonsensical first yellow he got for arguing over a foul by KDB is what dropped him in the shit. At least he's banned for the derby which isn't a bad thing tbh. Knowing our luck the ban will be rescinded.
Considering we might be without Ake Akanji and Stones we would be better if Lewis was available..
Definitely glad that Ruben is back though

We always seem to struggle against Palace, so getting a result against them is always good.

We are making basic mistakes lately though and it's costing us.
Their first goal is one example, we give the ball away and suddenly we're under pressure, Walker plays them onside, Rico is no where near his man and a simple through ball costs us a goal.

The number one thing for a defender is do your job, you have to know where your man is at all time and when they attack, mark him.How hard is that, I was taught that in the infants!

We can thank Ruben for keeping it 1-0, as he was putting his body on the line as they were cutting through us at will.

Erling was unlucky when put through by Kev, the commentators saying it was a great save, fuck off, it hit him in the head, he got so lucky.

We then scored a simple but good goal, a great cross and a nice header from Erling.

I thought we were controlling the play after that but then they score a simple goal too. No-one marking their CH and he has a free header. How the fuck does that happen?!

I have a big problem with our marking at corners.
Not just yesterday but in every game.
When the opposition have a corner, i always thought the CH marks their CF and our CF marks their CH. Then again, we always used to put men on the posts too!

But anyway, yesterday their CH scores and last week VVD has a couple of free headers. On both occasions they were supposed to be marked by Walker and Erling doesn't even seem to be in the mix. I don't get that.

Why isn't Erling marking the CH? For his size Erling really needs to be more of a factor in both boxes at corners.

Anyway, we scored a nice equaliser, good finish by Rico and we hung on for a point.

We are still playing decent football in possession, but we're flogging Gundo, Bernie and Rico and as none of them are a defensive midfielders, i see the upcoming games playing out in the same way as this recent run until we get Kovacic and hopefully a new DM in January.

We have a big week coming up and i hope we can get the two wins we badly need.

COME ON CITY!!!!

The disappointment of yesterday is that it was a winnable game as it was happening.

A few games recently were not because we were so bad and the opponents were good enough to capitalise on it. There's no way we could have won, under the circumstances.

Watching yesterday was annoying because you could see the game was there to be won and we didn't seem to have the belief to get the job done.

Were psychologically fucked when we concede goals, we can't properly turn it around.

Obviously i disagree. Our teamplay was definitely better imo.
Wow! Was nothing eromg with the team play against Forest. The chances they got were from sloppy passes like there were plenty of yesterday. Difference was against Forest we also played some great football.

"Play like that the rags will beat us convincingly with the amount of pace they have in midfield and upfront" Not if we play Jack and Doku. Forest dealt well with the rags. We will also beat them - if we get team selection right.
IF we get the team selection right and IF the players are available to get the team selection right......two huge issues

Problem currently is that aging, squad numbers and injuries means that games like Wednesday in Turin are killing us. We could probably do with going out of Europe early to help us preserve top 4.

On chances alone we should have won, but equally my heart sinks every time we lose the ball cheaply, as virtually every team (including the rags next week) are far quicker on the counter attack, and it's just too easy to get behind us.

As a recently sacked Manager once asserted, all eras come to an end. However, aside from the bad luck with injuries, it's been utterly ridiculous the way we've allowed this team to drift, particularly in the Full Back areas.
A bit of this 'drift' i think has been Guardiola's position - I could have seen him making this his last - so was not in 're build' mentality - deciding to stay 'may' change that IF he is genuinely committed (i have a feeling it protects a huge severance pay if politely asked to reconsider his position at the end of the season. He is undoubtedly the best manager the league has had since change to prem from football league. BUT it takes a lot of commitment mentally to keep fighting and building and striving for better. Without that desire its probably best to step away..IF he still has the desire to do the above - give him the keys to the Etihad, let him control the rebuild, give him everything he wants as he is the best we've ever had in reality.
